JOB PURPOSE
The teaching assistant works with the lead teacher to meet the needs of the students in a developmentally appropriate manner and contributes to a successful Primary Years Programme (PYP). The assistant helps to foster an atmosphere conducive to inclusive, transdisciplinary learning through the lens of inquiry, embedding visible thinking.
This is a full-time teaching assistant position for students in Primary School that will cover a maternity leave in Grade 1 English/Chinese and then possibly transition to Grade 4 English/Chinese.

Reports to: Head of Primary School
Start Date: November 11, 2024
End Date: February to April (tentative)

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate closely with the lead teacher(s) to create a seamless experience for the students.
- Lead small groups of students in curricular activities in English and Chinese.
- Circulate through the learning environment assisting students.
- Help with classroom management, taking over the class if the teacher is out of the room.
- Carry out supervision duties (recess, lunch, etc…) and support with the preparation of classroom materials.
- Provide ongoing feedback to students about their learning growth.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
- An unwavering commitment to the students.
- A high degree of proficiency in English and Chinese.
- An understanding of the principles of second language acquisition or experience in a bilingual/multilingual environment.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is preferable
- Training and experience in a Primary School setting are preferable
- A commitment to equity, inclusion, and inquiry pedagogy is essential alongside a willingness to adapt and develop pedagogy to meet the needs of our learners.
- Enthusiastic about teaching within a multicultural and multilingual environment. Flexibility of approach and a collaborative style are essential.
- Experience with the IB PYP is desirable, but good applicants with other curriculum experience are also welcome to apply.
