POSITION SUMMARY

The Coordinator of School Turnaround Support is responsible for ensuring effective implementation of turnaround strategies and initiatives to improve student growth and achievement in targeted schools. The incumbent will oversee the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of academic school turnaround efforts. This position will facilitate effective collaboration with school leadership teams and central office staff to ensure initiatives are implemented with fidelity. This position will report to the Director of School Turnaround Support and will work with other central office staff to integrate initiatives, provide resources and communication, minimize risks and issues, and ensure timely and cost-effective implementation of district turnaround initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Works collaboratively within the Division of Academics and Schools to ensure effective implementation of district and turnaround initiatives.
  • Collaborates with other district departments to ensure seamless implementation of turnaround support initiatives in assigned schools and works with the Director of School Turnaround and other district leaders to remove barriers that may hinder progress.
  • Identifies, procures, and coordinates with external partners responsible for delivering key services to schools and students.
  • Takes an active role in problem-solving with school and/or district leadership teams.
  • Maintains a current knowledge base in the areas of curriculum and instruction, best practices in education, special education, strategies for school improvement, strategies for closing achievement gaps, effective project management and communication strategies, applicable federal and state regulations, and local district policies and procedures.
  • Attends school and/or district leadership meetings regularly.
  • Monitors the progress of initiatives in turnaround schools and provides frequent updates on progress as required.
  • Facilitates analysis of qualitative and quantitative data to make conclusions and take timely actions toward meeting intended outcomes.
  • Provides needed resources, services and materials for students in alignment with the district's/ schools' turnaround initiatives.
  • Makes schools and classroom visits as needed or required.
  • Communicates progress, changes, needs, etc. in a timely and effective manner to appropriate audiences.
  • Provides regular updates to the Director of School Turnaround Support.
  • Provides support and feedback to the principal as needed or requested.
  • Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person or virtually and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours, and as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.

Upper Body Mobility: Ability to use hands to grasp and manipulate small objects; manipulate fingers, twist and bend at wrist and elbow; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower head.

Strength: Ability to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects which weigh as much as 15 or more pounds on a frequent basis.

Environmental Requirements: Ability to encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors.

Mental Requirements: Ability to read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records. Additional Work Conditions & Physical Abilities: Will require travel to multiple sites.

Requirements :

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:
  • Master's degree required in education, education leadership, or related field required.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
  • Must possess or be eligible to obtain Georgia Professional Standards Commission Certification at a level 5 or higher
  • Valid driver's license and availability of private transportation, or ability to attend off-site meetings

WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • Three (3) years of classroom teaching experience required, preferably in a school turnaround setting
  • Five (5) years of classroom teaching experience preferred, preferably in a school turnaround setting
  • Three (3) years of supervisory and/or administrative experience preferred
  • Experience with providing support and assistance in a school or district setting, highly preferred
  • Experience with accountability systems and data analysis preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of best teaching practices and support and implementation strategies.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects within established deadlines
  • Ability to facilitate meetings by setting clear objectives, maintaining focus, and documenting decisions and direction
  • Possess strong problems-solving skills
  • Knowledge of researched best practices for program evaluations and fiscal management
  • Knowledge of systematic planning practices
  • Must have strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships and work collaboratively with staff, parents and community members

Salary Grade: 134

Salary Range: APS Salary Schedule (All Positions)
