What are the responsibilities and job description for the Contract Grant Writer position at Atlanta ToolBank?
Atlanta Community ToolBank | Hybrid (Remote-Friendly, Atlanta Preferred)
Let’s cut to the chase: The Atlanta Community ToolBank needs a talented grant writer. Someone who can turn a pile of data and a great story into funding. Someone who gets that without tools, nonprofits can’t build anything—literally.
Who We Are:
The ToolBank is where nonprofits, schools, and community groups go when they need serious equipment for important work. We lend out tools, offer expertise, and supercharge volunteer efforts. Because changing the world is easier when you have the right tool.
The Gig:
We’re looking for a Contract Grant Writer—a freelancer who knows their way around the funding landscape and can bring in dollars for our education programs and general operations. If you have a track record of writing grants that win, keep reading.
What You’ll Do:
- Dig up the right grant opportunities that align with our mission.
- Write 20 sharp, compelling proposals and letters of inquiry.
- Work with our Director of Development and program staff to pull together data, stories, and the magic that makes funders say “yes.”
- Keep deadlines. Non-negotiable.
- Help with post-award reporting—because getting the money is just step one.
- Keep an eye on new funding opportunities and flag what’s worth our time.
What You Bring:
- A proven track record of winning education and operational grants. Show us the money (literally—tell us what you’ve secured).
- Writing chops. You can craft a killer narrative that funders want to read.
- Experience with grant research tools and databases.
- Impeccable organizational skills. You can juggle multiple grants without dropping the ball.
- Independence. You own your work, meet deadlines, and don’t need micromanaging.
- Bonus points if you know Atlanta’s nonprofit funding scene.
The Details:
- Contract-based with flexible hours. Need the ability to meet once every week for 20-30 minutes between the hours of 9 a.m - 5 p.m.
- Pay: $30-35/hour (estimated 5 hours per week) depending on experience.
- Opportunity: to expand volume of work as funds start rolling in.
- How to apply: Send your resume, cover letter, and two writing samples (preferably winning grants) to Julia.Mayfield@ToolBank.org. And because we need to know you actually read this, include the word “dinosaur” somewhere in your cover letter.
Interviews will be held on a rolling basis.
