Atlanta United Football Club is looking to add a detail-oriented, methodical, and collaborative Data Engineer to our growing team. As a Data Scientist, you will play a key role in the analysis and management of data for our Club. This role will involve performing statistical analysis on large data sets to assist decision-making across multiple facets of the club’s Technical Department. The person in this role will also assist in the maintenance of the club’s current web applications and help build additional tools to assist members across the Technical Department. This position will engage in collaboration with the Analytics, Scouting, and Sports Science departments, alongside the First Team coaching staff.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Performing advanced statistical analysis on large data sets to assist decision-making within the Soccer Operations department.
- Assisting the Scouting Department and Head of Analytics in the player identification and analysis process.
- Maintaining current automated pre- and post-match reports for first team staff.
- Assisting in maintaining and updating package in R.
- Performing and presenting research projects in a concise, straightforward manner.
- Providing administrative support and completing general Soccer Operations duties as required.
- Collaborating with Head of Analytics and Data Engineer on ad-hoc analysis and projects for the Scouting Department and Coaching Staff.
- Helping implement and maintain web applications to enhance research and decision-making across Soccer Operations.
- Creating and following processes to keep data confidential.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field preferred, or demonstrated experience.
- Experience working with soccer event data and tracking data.
- Proficiency in R (preferred) or Python.
- Experience with SQL / PostgreSQL Databases.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Experience with Version Control and package management.
- Willingness and ability to relocate to Atlanta and work on-site at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground.
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong statistical modelling skills.
- Knowledge of soccer analytics and experience working with sports data.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
- Ability to query SQL databases.
- Ability to communicate statistical information to groups of people with diverse set of backgrounds.
- Experience performing a full data extraction, transformation, and loading process.
- Experience solving complicated problems involving multiple points of view.
- Ability to work independently and under deadlines.
- Ability to work evening, weekend, and holiday hours (as dictated by the soccer calendar).
- Desire to learn and constantly improve.
