AWHS Mammography Technologist Job Description
Job Summary:
The Mammography Technologist performs screening examinations of the breast to help in the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease in patients for our physicians. The Mammography Technologist exhibits flexibility and adaptability to the unique needs of the Imaging department and responds appropriately.
Reports to:
- Imaging Manager.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Practice safe procedures and adhere to radiation safety measures.
- Complete patient education regarding exams.
- Promote privacy and comfort for the patient.
- Perform screening mammogram based on proper procedures.
- Operate mammography equipment carefully and knowledgably.
- Practice consistent attendance to assure that the client facility needs and patient needs are met.
- Comply with all facilities’ policies, procedures and practices.
- Produce high quality images for the radiologist to evaluate.
- Complete appropriate documentation in Penrad and on patient history sheet.
- Perform quality control functions related to mammography.
- Follow infection control and safety guidelines.
- Keep work areas clean and free from clutter.
- Stock and monitor supplies, as needed.
- Download outside images into PACS.
- Any other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
Requirements
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of office policies and procedures to accurately answer questions from patients.
- Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Knowledge and correct usage of medical terminology.
- Clinical knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and pathology for mammography procedures.
- Ability to navigate and effectively use EMR and Penrad systems.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Ability to effectively and clearly communicate in writing, over the telephone, and in person with physicians, office staff, and patients.
- Ability to work as part of a team and promote a positive work environment.
- Ability to listen and understand information and ideas and adjust actions accordingly.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy in mammography positioning and exposure technique.
- Ability to use professional and ethical judgment and critical thinking when performing work duties.
- Ability to follow directions/instructions from supervisor.
- Ability to maintain consistent attendance to assure that the client facility needs and patient needs are met.
- Skilled in the operation of Mammography equipment.
- Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, patients, and the public.

Education and Experience:
- Completion of a two-year approved School of Radiologic Technology
- One year of full-time experience as a Mammography Technologist
- Registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology
- Continuing Education: MQSA/FDA- 15 CEU’s every 3 years, 200-documented case numbers every 2 years.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to perform all duties using proper body mechanics.
- Frequently move/lift between 25-50 pounds, depending on assignment requirements
- Must be able to stand for long periods with frequent squatting, twisting, bending, kneeling and reaching to prepare equipment, materials or objects in order to provide patient care or maintain the patient environment
- Frequent manual dexterity and fine motor coordination
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment
