Description
Evaluates and interprets disability documentation for eligibility determinationImplements reasonable accommodations consistent with current lawProvides academic, career, social / personal and transfer counseling individually and in groups for program participants, students enrolled in the Academy of Culinary Arts (ACA) and the general student populationMeets with prospective students and current students to discuss accommodations and evaluate and interpret disability documentation to determine eligibility for accommodationsAdvocates on behalf of students with faculty and staff to improve communication and ensure proper adherence of accommodationsCoordinates accommodations including testing accommodations, note takers and sign language interpretersCollaborates with college departments regarding technology needs such as : alternative academic material formats, texts, assistive technology, etc.Meets with area high school Child Study teams to assist with student enrollmentAssists the Director with identifying personnel who provide accommodationsRepresents college at activities related to disabled studentsDevelops and implements retention initiativesUtilizes Ellucian CRM Advise to document services and communicate with studentsComplies with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations, Section 504 and FERPAProcess student financial aid appealsMaintains accurate student files, updates database systemMakes appropriate referralsProvides crisis intervention and referral servicesWorks with external organizations that provide support and resources for students with disabilitiesMaintains appropriate documentation for state and local reportsPrepares and submits reports in a timely mannerMonitors the academic status of program participantsConducts orientation sessions for new studentsFacilitates seminars and workshops on various topics relevant to student developmentAttends and reports on activities at advisory board meetingsParticipates in professional development activitiesServes on appointed college committeesIdentifies and implements best practices within the fieldPerforms other duties as assigned QualificationsTypical Qualifications
Education :
Master's degree in counseling, student personnel services, psychology, sociology, social work or related fieldLCSW or counselor certification preferredExperience :
Minimum of three years of significant experience working with the disabled population, preferably in a higher education environmentDemonstrated experience handling crisis situationsCompetencies and Skills :
Strong communication skills and computer literacySupplemental Information
