Description:
The Excavator Operator is responsible for operating a power-driven machine equipped with a movable shovel and/or backhoe to excavate or move coal, dirt, rock, spoil, and other materials. This role requires adherence to safety regulations, performing equipment maintenance, and executing excavation tasks efficiently as directed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receive written or oral instructions from the supervisor regarding materials to move or excavate.
- Push levers and depress pedals to move the machine, lower and push the shovel into stockpiled material, or dig into the ground.
- Lift, swing, and dump contents of the shovel into trucks, cars, conveyors, hoppers, or stockpiles.
- Observe markings on the ground, hand signals, or grade stakes to perform accurate material removal at excavation sites.
- Perform all necessary functions to operate the excavator effectively.
- Inspect, clean, and maintain equipment, including cleaning and lubrication tasks.
- Report mechanical, electrical, or safety issues to the supervisor promptly.
- Assist mechanics with field servicing or repairs of the loader on an as-needed basis.
- Maintain and report load counts as directed by the supervisor.
- Ensure a clean and safe work environment.
