Summary / Objective :
The Safety Director plans, develops, coordinates, and supervises corporate safety / health and environmental protection functions. They will work closely with managers and contractors to develop and execute safety policies and programs, which affect all corporate operating units and are critical importance to overall company objectives, operations, and profitability. They also ensure construction projects are planned and executed in compliance with safety standards and without injury, illness, and incident or reliability issues related to the construction work. This position stewards contractors' and their subcontractors' adherence to appropriate safety standards and requirements. It also provides supervisory management to our safety coordinators in the field.
Essential Functions :
Provide administrative and technical direction and provide updates on all corporate safety and health programs, procedures and policies.Provide assistance to division, project and department management personnel to ensure compliance with all safety, accident and fire programs, procedures and policies.Provide technical and administrative direction to on-site safety and first aid personnel; includes staffing and personnel administration activities with concurrence of Project Management.Thoroughly investigate all accidents resulting in injury or major property or equipment damage.Represent Company in all safety related hearings (OSHA, etc.). Perform periodic jobsite inspections and prepare reports.Review all safety documentation / reports for accuracy and completeness; ensure all required documents are forwarded to federal and state agencies per regulations and to company insurance carrier per their requirements.Prepare safety related input for bid proposals.Organize and implement safety programs for new projects including safety incentive programs and post-accident alcohol and drug testing.A ct as company representative on issues relating to environmental protection concerns. Interfaces as necessary with environmental regulatory agencies and audits project site compliance with environmental protection requirements.Chair the company safety committee meetings. Develop safety budget and assures expenditures do not exceed the budget. Formulate and initiate training programs for employees and supervisors.Assume additional responsibilities as directed by corporate executives.Manage a team of Safety Coordinators that will report to the Safety DirectorWork with HR closely on issues dealing with incident reports and unsafe practices in the fieldOversee and manage injury case / illness filesUse and implement software dealing with cases and safety managementSupervisory Responsibility : YES
Required :
10 years' experience in industrial construction safety; or, equivalent combination of vocational training and experienceExcellent interpersonal skills; team orientedExcellent oral, written communication and organizational skillsInitiative to work with limited supervisionFormal training in OSHA 1926 - Construction Safety StandardsMust be able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail and demonstrate problem-solving skillsMust be able to pass post-offer pre-employment drug screen, and may be required to satisfactorily complete additional background checks as required (i.e. DMV, criminal history)Must adhere to all company policy and proceduresMust be available to work assigned schedulesThe work environment and physical demands required would be representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, and may include, but are not limited to the following :
