Job Duties
A. Prepare for each call by gathering general information concerning the account being researched. Use industry marketing reports, including Pier Stats, to identify origins, destinations, commodities, and competition (25% of time).
B. Prospect calling for new business, quote follow-up for existing customers and upsell active accounts on new and enhanced services (50% of time).
C. Follow-up calls and document call outcome (25% of time).
Responsibilities
- Send sales lead to outside sales staff in North America and Europe.
- Send rate proposals to prospective customers.
- Follow up on customer rate proposals.
- Follow up on new business monitor trial shipments to ensure success.
- Manage service contract and existing quotes.
- Document calls in the sales database program and complete weekly production report.
- Field general customer service issues within your territory and transfer to customer service when needed.
Qualifications
- 3 years of general inside sales or 2 years of customer service in the ocean export/import industry work experience.
- Shipping experience is preferred.
- Must be able to demonstrate salesmanship, customer service, enthusiasm, ability to build relationships with customers and a desire to do inside sales.
