The ideal candidate will be remarkably well organized and detail-oriented and will have experience in administration, communication and event execution and logistics. We encourage our interns to actively engage with events, publications, and strategies of the center. This position will expose the candidate to the writing and editing process for publications and articles, logistical elements of event planning, and the creation of strategic initiatives within a think tank. Interns are also highly encouraged to pursue their own research projects, write and publish their own policy briefs or blog posts.

The ideal candidate for the intern position is at least a college junior, graduate student or recent graduate in good standing studying international relations, politics, foreign policy or related field. Demonstrable interest in the Middle East and North Africa, international relations, foreign policy, building peace and regional security, and unlocking the region’s human potential though classwork and/or experience are strongly preferred. Successful candidates will have a passion for the work, an entrepreneurial ethos, and a collegial spirit while also being an effective communicator and open to learning and growing in an organization.

This internship is fully on-site at our Washington, DC headquarters. Interns will be compensated at a rate of $17.75 per hour.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support the planning and execution of program events, roundtables and webinars
  • Assist the centers’ communications team with promoting publications, events and media mentions
    • Draft social media content for X, Instagram and LinkedIn
    • Draft newsletters and email marketing
    • Track media mentions
  • Help with the program’s general administrative work
    • Updated the program’s contacts database
    • Manage center files and platforms
    • Other supporting tasks as needed
  • Participate in weekly center-wide meetings, biweekly initiative meetings and monthly Atlantic Council meetings
  • Conduct research to support the activities of the Center
  • Conduct personal research and writing
Qualifications

  • Must be at least a college junior in good standing, a graduate student, or a recent graduate
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) are required
  • Strong analytical, planning, time management, and organizational skills are required
  • Excellent organizational, logistical, and administrative skills
  • Ability to represent the Atlantic Council to external constituencies, such as senior officials, board members, donors, and individual and corporate members
  • Experience with social media campaigns, website maintenance, and email marketing is a bonus
  • Experience supporting the planning and execution of events is a bonus
  • Experience living, studying or working in the Middle East is a Bonus ENA region is a bonus
  • Proficiency in a regional language such as Arabic, Persian, French, Kurdish, or Hebrew is a bonus
  • The ability to work full-time (40 hrs/week) is preferred
