Atlantic Distributors is looking for an experienced tractor trailer and driver manager to join our team. The Transportation Manager is responsible for the successful execution of customer freight delivery and the daily oversight and management of the company's drivers and trucks. And serve as a fill in driver as and when needed.

Responsibilities for Transportation Manager

Driver recruiting and retention: Develop and implement strategies to attract and retain top-performing drivers, ensuring a stable and efficient workforce.

· DOT Compliance: Ensure all drivers comply with Department of Transportation regulations and company policies, maintaining a high standard of safety and legal adherence.

· Backhaul Revenue: Optimize backhaul opportunities to maximize revenue and improve fleet efficiency.

· Transportation Expense Reduction: Identify and implement cost-saving measures within transportation operations, enhancing overall profitability.

· Revenue Improvement: Develop strategies to increase transportation revenue, leveraging industry knowledge and market trends.

· Private Fleet Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and repair of the private fleet, ensuring vehicles are in optimal condition and minimizing downtime.

· Managing Drivers: Supervise and support drivers across multiple locations, fostering a positive work environment and addressing any concerns or issues promptly.

· Outbound Routing Optimization: Seek to continuously improve the efficiency of outbound routes.

Track drivers progress and location using ELD to ensure drivers are on route

  • Serve as a dispatcher when drivers are on delivery
  • Serve as a fill in driver if needed
  • Successfully track and audit mileage and fuel purchased
  • Complete a driver ride along Bi-annually and participate in pre-trip inspections with drivers on a regular basis
  • Create reports of driver's effectiveness
  • Negotiate rates for third party services/contract drivers based on business need
  • Review driver logs to check for errors and violations and monitor driver hours
  • Other duties may be assigned
  • Qualifications
  • CDL class A
  • 5 years’ fleet management/ transportation planning/logistics/dispatch experience 2 years’ supervisory experience
  • Degree in Logistics, Transportation, Supply Chain Management or related area, or equivalent
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and must be available on-call during evening and weekend hours as needed to address issues (i.e., equipment breakdowns, weather emergencies, etc.)
  • Proven experience in driver retention and recruiting.
  • Demonstrated history of improving bottom-line results through effective transportation expense management and revenue enhancement strategies.
  • Experience managing a private fleet of vehicles, ensuring proper maintenance and operational efficiency.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with a focus on servant leadership and fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to manage drivers across multiple locations, addressing challenges and ensuring smooth operations.
  • Expertise in governmental safety and regulatory compliance (DOT)
  • Computer applications experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to schedule a group of drivers
  • Great organizational skills
  • Incredible time management skills
  • Ability to analyze large sets of data and draw conclusions
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Great knowledge of vehicles

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $80,000.00 per year

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Transportation management: 5 years (Preferred)
  • Backhaul: 5 years (Preferred)
  • Fleet management: 5 years (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • CDL A (Preferred)

Ability to Relocate:

  • Hyattsville, MD 20785: Relocate before starting work (Required)
