Field Support Technician (Oilfield Flowback and Rig Up/Rig Down)

Job Overview:

The Field Support Technician is responsible for providing hands-on technical support at oilfield well sites, specializing in flowback operations and the rigging up (installation) and rigging down (disassembly) of equipment. This role involves working closely with flowback operators, rig crews, and other field personnel to monitor well performance, maintain equipment, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards. The position requires a strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work in demanding outdoor conditions, often on rotating schedules.

Key Responsibilities:

Flowback Operations

• Assist in monitoring and managing the flowback process after well completion, ensuring the safe return of fluids (sand, water, oil, and gas) from the well.
• Operate and maintain flowback equipment such as separators, choke manifolds, sand traps, and flow meters.
• Record and report data on fluid volumes, pressures, temperatures, and sand production to track well performance.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues during flowback operations to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency.

Rig Up and Rig Down Operations

• Participate in the setup (rig up) and breakdown (rig down) of flowback and well testing equipment at the wellsite, including connecting pipes, valves, and hoses.
• Assemble, inspect, and disassemble iron lines, manifolds, and other components as required.
• Ensure proper alignment and secure installation of equipment to meet operational and safety standards.
• Assist in the transportation, loading, and unloading of equipment to and from the wellsite.

Equipment Maintenance

• Perform routine checks and preventative maintenance on flowback and rig-related equipment, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and electronics.
• Identify and address mechanical or operational issues, such as leaks, valve malfunctions, or pressure irregularities.
• Support the repair or replacement of faulty components under the direction of senior technicians or supervisors.

Safety and Compliance

• Adhere to all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with OSHA and company-specific regulations.
• Participate in pre-job safety meetings and hazard assessments to ensure a safe working environment.
• Assist in implementing environmental safeguards, such as spill prevention and waste management, during flowback and rig operations.

Team Collaboration

• Work closely with flowback operators, rig hands, and supervisors to coordinate tasks and ensure smooth operations.
• Communicate effectively with team members to report equipment status, operational challenges, and safety concerns.
• Provide occasional training or guidance to less-experienced crew members as needed.

Documentation and Reporting

• Maintain accurate logs of equipment performance, flow rates, and maintenance activities.
• Submit reports to supervisors for operational analysis, billing, or compliance purposes.

Qualifications:

Education:

High school diploma or GED required; vocational training or an associate’s degree in a technical field (e.g., mechanical or petroleum technology) is a plus.

Experience:

1-2 years of experience in oilfield operations, preferably with exposure to flowback, well testing, or rig-related activities.

Skills:

• Strong mechanical and troubleshooting abilities.
• Familiarity with oilfield equipment such as separators, manifolds, and valves.
• Basic understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and flow control systems.
• Ability to read and interpret gauges, meters, and technical diagrams.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Certifications:

Valid driver’s license with a clean record, PEC/Safeland, One Basin One Way, H2S awareness/clear, First Aid/CPR, or forklift operation may be preferred or required.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, working in extreme weather conditions, and standing or walking for extended periods.

Working Conditions:

• Location: On-site at oilfield locations.
• Schedule: Monday through Friday - 70hr work weeks

Environment:

Exposure to loud noise, hazardous materials (e.g., H2S), and varying weather conditions.

Pay: From $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 70 per week
