Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and responsible Shop Hand/Assistant to join our dynamic metal fabrication and welding team. This role is a crucial support function that involves assisting with shop operations, lacquering parts, driving the company van, moving material, shearing material and more. The ideal candidate will be reliable, safety-conscious, technical background and capable of effectively contributing to the smooth functioning of our shop.
Responsibilities:
1. Material Delivery:
- Safely and punctually deliver raw materials, finished products, and equipment to clients, suppliers, or project sites using the company vehicle.
- Ensure proper loading, securing, and unloading of materials to prevent damage during transportation.
- Maintain accurate delivery records, including receipts and signatures when necessary.
2. Shop Assistance:
- Assist the fabrication and welding team with various tasks, including material handling, lacquering, cutting, grinding, shearing, and assembly as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized shop environment by sweeping, cleaning work surfaces, and properly disposing of waste materials.
3. Inventory Management:
- Keep track of inventory levels for raw materials, consumables, and tools, notifying the management team when reordering is necessary.
- Assist with receiving and inspecting incoming shipments to verify accuracy and quality.
4. Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines during material handling, transportation, and shop activities.
- Maintain a strong commitment to safe driving practices and traffic rules, ensuring the safety of yourself, other road users, and the materials being transported.
5. Communication:
- Communicate effectively with the fabrication team and management regarding delivery schedules, inventory levels, and any issues that may arise during transportation or in the shop.
6. General Support:
- Assist with general shop tasks as required, including cleanup, organization, and other tasks to ensure efficient shop operations.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Prior experience in driving, material handling, or shop assistance is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of metal fabrication and welding processes is beneficial.
- Experience in a fabrication sheet metal shop is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
