What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sheet Metal Fabricator position at Atlantic Fabricating?
Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to fabricate precision metal components and assemblies.
- Utilize manufacturing machinery including press brakes, Bridgeport mills, lathes, and welding equipment to execute complex projects.
- Perform TIG and MIG welding on various metals when needed.
- Lead and assist with custom fabrication assemblies along with production sheet metal jobs.
- Ensure adherence to quality control standards and work closely with the Quality Assurance team to meet ISO certifications (ISO9001, AS9100D, etc.).
- Train and mentor junior fabricators and welders, sharing expertise and promoting skill development.
- Assist with final assembly after fabrication, including complex mechanical assemblies.
- Support troubleshooting and maintenance of fabrication equipment.
- Assist with bending and forming functions using the press brake, working closely with the lead fabricator.
Qualifications:
- 7 years of experience in metal fabrication or a related field.
- Proficiency in welding (TIG and MIG) and advanced metalworking techniques.
- Ability to operate and program CNC and manual machinery, including press brakes, Bridgeport mills, and lathes.
- Experience with fabrication and assembly for industries such as aerospace, energy, or medical preferred.
- Strong blueprint reading and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) skills are a must-have requirement.
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles and willingness to contribute to process improvement initiatives.
- Team-oriented mindset with excellent communication skills.
- Ability to lift heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) and work in a physically demanding environment.
