Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Estimator to join our dynamic team to handle takeoffs, cost estimating, and bid preparation for excavation, grading, utilities, and related scopes. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in the pre-construction phase, providing accurate estimates and ensuring that projects are financially viable. The Estimator will work closely with project managers and construction teams to deliver high-quality results on time and within budget. The ideal candidate understands both the numbers and the field, and can work with plans, software, and people alike.
Responsibilities
- Review plans/specs and create detailed quantity takeoffs
- Prepare estimates for earthwork, utilities, grading, and paving
- Conduct thorough site visits to assess project requirements and gather necessary data for accurate estimating.
- Collaborate with field crew to ensure alignment with project goals.
- Negotiate contracts with subcontractors and suppliers to secure competitive pricing.
- Provide support in project management activities, ensuring compliance with timelines and quality standards.
- Maintain organized records of estimates, contracts, and correspondence related to projects.
- Use estimating software and digital takeoff tools (AGTEK, Trimble, or similar)
- Identify risks, clarifications, and value engineering options
- Attend pre-bid meetings and perform occasional site walks
- Assist with project handoff to field team
Experience
- 3 years of civil/sitework estimating experience
- Strong knowledge of construction management principles and practices.
- Familiarity with cost control measures and techniques.
- Proficient in using estimating software
- Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to build strong relationships with subcontractors and clients.
- Solid understanding of contract terms and conditions related to construction projects.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all estimates.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for clear interaction with team members and stakeholders.
- Familiarity with GPS models and machine control workflows a plus
