Summary:
The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the accounting needs of Atlantic Park Surf, ensuring precise financial reporting and adherence to relevant regulations. This role includes supervising financial processes, preparing financial statements, managing budgets, handling daily accounting operations, and offering strategic financial advice to senior management. Additionally, the manager evaluates operating results, including costs, revenues, and budgets, while assessing trends and identifying opportunities for increased profitability.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Financial Operations:
- Ensure the accuracy of daily financial practices, including revenue recognition, expense coding, and report creation to provide timely data to all departments and senior management.
- Manage payroll services, including onboarding and termination processes.
- Oversee bank reconciliations and banking services.
- Reconcile monthly ledgers, including receivables, payables, bank accounts, and wage accounts.
- Prepare and verify reports for agencies, trade, and professional organizations in line with project policies.
Budgeting and Financial Planning:
- Manage the annual budget process and monthly budgets including variance reporting.
- Prepare operating budgets and financial forecasts; analyze financial information, monitor budget vs. actual expenditures, and advise management on variances and corrective actions.
- Work with the General Manager and department heads to plan and manage budgets and cash flow statements.
- Monitor financial aspects of capital expenditure projects.
Tax and Compliance:
- Manage and prepare sales, use, and other local tax requirements to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Prepare or supervise the preparation of federal, state, and local tax returns.
- Work with external auditors to ensure consistency with project policies and procedures.
Internal Controls and Auditing:
- Conduct internal audits to ensure records are accurately maintained and policies are consistently followed.
- Audit member and guest charges, cash sheets, and all cash and charge expenditures.
- Safeguard funds in bank accounts, ensure proper deposit of revenues, and supervise check issuance.
System Management:
- Work with site systems such as booking systems, Procurify, and QuickBooks to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
- Manage, review, and suggest improvements to the automated financial management and accounting system.
Team and Process Management:
- Create and operate systems for accounts receivable/payable processes and procedures.
- Develop, create procedures, and operate Cash Control.
- Maintain fixed asset ledgers and prepare depreciation schedules for monthly entries.
Communication and Reporting:
- Inform and advise department heads about the financial aspects of their responsibilities.
- Attend owner, manager and other relevant meetings.
- Prepare and present a full report of the year’s financial operations for the annual meeting.
- Assist in creation of the annual plan.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Oversee member billing and collection procedures.
- Compile, approve, and maintain credit applications for vendors.
- Negotiate and administer employee benefits, including health and life insurance, pension plans, and workers’ compensation.
- Maintain procedures for confidentiality related to company and employee issues.
- Manage the issuance, recovery, and cancellation of membership certificates, and handle collections and refunds.
- Identify inefficiencies, threats and weaknesses, research and suggest solutions to enhance business practices.
Experience and Qualifications
- 5 to 7 years of professional accounting experience with at least two of those years at manager level or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university.
- Experience overseeing information technology operation preferred.
- Certified Hospitality Accountant Executive (CHAE) is appreciated.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license appreciated.

- Ability to Lift / carry 20 lbs (frequently) and 40 lbs (occasionally.)
- Ability to work outdoors occasionally.
