Position Summary: The Unit Manager, in accordance with established policies and procedures, ensures that nursing care is provided, staffing
is maintained, and all programs, policies, and medical procedures are followed. This individual assists the DON and
Administrator in a manner that supports and enhances the goals of the department. The Unit Manager reports to the DON.

  • Ensures that all aspects of resident care meet the goals, objectives, and quality standards of the department.
  • Works with DON on establishing and implementing best practice policies and procedures.
  • Performs audits and quality review to ensure staff compliance with set policies and procedures
  • Assigns staff to assist providers during rounds if required.
  • Oversees the units Quality Programs and Performance Improvement Programs in collaboration with the DON.
  • Leads staff by example in treating all supervisors, coworkers, and residents with respect.
  • Responds to emergency needs of the Health Center and oversees and/or responds to emergency needs of the apartment residents if called upon to do so.
  • Participates in resident care meetings and assists with necessary paperwork.
  • Assume leadership roles in absence of DON.
  • Provides support and guidance for other Health Center staff and works with the DON to counsel employees with poor performance and to acknowledge good performance.
Assists with in-service training when necessary.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Recent experience as a Manager/Supervisor within the last 3 years, preferably in a SNF/LTC environment.

  • Management success that includes excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to prioritize patient/resident care, and a knack for making connections with our residents, their families, and our staff. Our manager will come with a purpose and the intent to support collaborative problem solving, as well as solid experience with electronic charting and keeping ALL the balls in the air!

  • An educator's mindset and belief that our staff is most successful when they are empowered with the knowledge to be their best.

  • Prominent leadership characteristics like professionalism, critical thinking, autonomy, and positivity. Our ideal manager is intuitive and most comfortable when working with the team.

  • A current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia, a minimum of one (1) year of experience with management or supervisory in geriatrics, and be knowledgeable of state and federal regulations in the long-term care and assisted living setting.
