Practice Manager for Specialty Veterinary Hospital
Atlantic Veterinary Internal Medicine and Oncology in Annapolis (AVIM&O) is a leading specialty animal hospital that is part of the Chesapeake Veterinary Referral Center (CVRC). AVIM&O consists of seven board-certified DVMs specializing in Internal Medicine and Oncology, with a total team of 45 dedicated individuals. Our goal is to establish ourselves as the premier veterinary internal medicine and oncology practice in the region, and we are seeking an experienced Practice Manager to help us achieve this vision.
CVRC is composed of seven independent specialty practices:
- Atlantic Veterinary Internal Medicine and Oncology (AVIM&O)
- Anne Arundel Veterinary Emergency Clinic (AAVEC)
- Chesapeake Veterinary Surgical Specialists (CVSS)
- Compass Veterinary Neurology and Imaging (CVNI)
- CVCA – Cardiology
- Eye Care for Animals
- Veterinary Radiation Oncology of the Chesapeake
Position Summary:
The Practice Manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of AVIM&O, ensuring efficient workflow, staffing, and high-quality patient care. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with excellent organizational and communication skills, capable of fostering a positive and collaborative work culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management:
- Foster a supportive and professional work environment that aligns with AVIM&O’s mission and values.
- Promote teamwork across departments and with other CVRC specialty groups.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels to provide exceptional patient care.
- Supervise and mentor Team Leads and the Education Coordinator.
- Facilitate training, education, and professional development for all staff.
- Conduct annual performance reviews and manage staff promotions.
- Work with HR to address performance, attendance, and behavioral concerns.
- Maintain a regular presence in the clinic and ensure efficient client and patient flow.
Operational Management:
- Oversee recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of new employees.
- Evaluate and improve hospital processes to enhance efficiency and patient care.
- Ensure compliance with documentation and recording of controlled substances.
- Develop strategies to improve customer service and client satisfaction.
- Address and resolve client complaints professionally.
- Monitor and manage employee schedules, ensuring appropriate coverage while minimizing overtime.
- Work with the hospital director and medical director on equipment needs and inventory management.
- Participate in leadership meetings and liaise with other CVRC specialty practices as needed.
- Work on special projects as assigned by leadership.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED; an associate or bachelor's degree is preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in a veterinary care facility (specialty practice experience preferred).
- 3-5 years of supervisory or leadership experience required.
- RVT certification preferred.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
