Job Description

ED Nurse Bonus Program:
In recognition of your experience and expertise, the Emergency Department offers a competitive bonus program:

  • 1 full year of critical care experience: $5,000 bonus
  • 2 years of critical care experience: $10,000 bonus
  • 3 years of critical care experience: $15,000 bonus

Position Overview: As a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center (ARMC), you will provide direct and continuous care to patients of all ages experiencing emergency medical conditions. This care includes assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patients with emergent, urgent, or non-urgent physical and psychosocial problems in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs), Physician Assistants (PAs), and support staff, to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Patient Care:
    • Provide immediate, life-saving interventions for patients with medical or surgical emergencies.
    • Assess, diagnose, and treat patients based on their presenting conditions, including those requiring minimal care or life-support measures.
    • Deliver both acute and episodic care for physical and psychosocial emergencies in the Emergency Department (ED), adjusting care based on patient needs and triage classification.
    • Provide patient education and support to patients and their families regarding their condition, treatment, and follow-up care.
  2. Collaborative Practice:
    • Work closely with a team of physicians, APNs, PAs, PCA/PCT/ED Technicians, and other medical staff to coordinate comprehensive care.
    • Actively participate in patient flow and communication across various areas of the ED, including Fast Track, Rapid Evaluation, and Trauma/Resuscitation Units.
    • Support communication between ED staff and paramedics, particularly in assisting with medical command base coordination for incoming patients.
  3. Quality and Safety:
    • Adhere to established protocols and clinical guidelines, including Joint Commission, New Jersey Department of Health, and Emergency Nurses Association standards.
    • Participate in shift huddles and safety briefings to ensure alignment on patient flow, census updates, and safety concerns.
    • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the patient care system (FirstNet), ensuring all patient updates and changes are clearly communicated.
  4. Specialized Care Areas:
    • Care for patients in specialized areas of the ED, such as pediatric rooms, OB/GYN rooms, negative pressure isolation rooms, and trauma/resuscitation areas.
    • Respond effectively to patients requiring psychological and behavioral health assessments, particularly in the Mainland Emergency Department, or those requiring specialized care in the Pediatric or SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) rooms.
    • Provide care in the Hammonton Satellite Emergency Department, utilizing equipment for stabilization and diagnostics, including point-of-care laboratory services and radiology.
  5. Staff Development:
    • Participate in an evidence-based orientation and annual competency process, maintaining clinical skills and knowledge.
    • Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to ensure competency in emergency care practices.
    • Assist with the training and mentoring of new staff and support team collaboration.
  6. Crisis Management:
    • Respond to fluctuating staffing and patient care needs, stepping in to assist in any area of the department as required.
    • When necessary, adjust care delivery according to the situation, including the use of additional staff or resources (e.g., qualified pool or agency staff).
  7. Performance Improvement & Leadership:
    • Actively support performance improvement initiatives and contribute to a culture of excellence.
    • Provide leadership and mentorship to other members of the patient care team.
    • Engage in continuous personal and professional growth through educational activities and staying current on best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Education/License:
    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN preferred).
    • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey or current multi-state license required.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Experience:
    • Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at the time of hire; incumbents within the position will be trained appropriately.
    • Emergency Room (ER) Experience:
      • Minimum of 2 years of medical/surgical and/or emergency room experience preferred.
      • ACLS required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
      • ATCN or TNCC required within 24 months of hire or transfer.
      • Minimum of 8 hours of education annually in trauma and stroke assessment.
      • PALS or ENPC required within 12 months of hire or transfer.
      • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training to be completed by 10/31/25 for existing team members and within one year for new hires.
  • Specialty Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
    • ATCN or TNCC (Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses or Trauma Nursing Core Course) is required within 24 months of hire or transfer.
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) required within 12 months of hire or transfer.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and move patients as needed and respond quickly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to work in high-stress and high-pressure environments while maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.

Work Environment: The Emergency Department provides 24-hour emergency care and is equipped with specialized areas for trauma, resuscitation, fast-track care, and other emergency services. The department is staffed with a dedicated, multidisciplinary team and supported by advanced technology, including radiology, CT scanning, and point-of-care diagnostics.

Note: This role requires a high level of professionalism, clinical expertise, and the ability to manage complex, often life-threatening situations, with the primary goal of ensuring the best possible outcomes for patients in need of emergency care.
