What are the responsibilities and job description for the Billing Specialist position at Atlantis Behavioral Health Services?
General Description of Position: The Billing & Coding Specialist is responsible for patients’ eligibility, collecting, posting, and managing account payments. Responsible for submitting claims and verifying payment from Insurance companies. Writing off payments that were denied or not paid in full from the billing system.
Essential Functions:
· Completes eligibility of patients, verifying any applicable patient’s responsibility fees (i.e., copays, deductible, co-insurance & balances). Eligibility may include verification through insurances’ portals and/or calling the payer directly to further inquire about members’ coverage.
· Answers questions from patients, clerical staff, and insurance companies.
· Identifies and resolves patient billing complaints.
· Research overpayments from insurance companies.
· Identifies billable codes and modifiers for rendering services.
· Completes of billing projects as assigned.
· Good communication skills with other departments within the company about billing concerns.
· Completes posting daily through EOB’s or paper checks.
· Verifies coding utilization by clinical personnel and reports finding to immediate supervisor.
· Other assignments /responsibilities as needed.
Education: Medical billing and coding certificate.
Skills/Experience:
· Must have at least 1 year experience in billing and coding.
· Knowledge in ICD-10 CM, CPT, HCPCS.
· Must have time management skills.
· Must be organized, attention to detail, documentation skills and excellent math skills.
· Experience with Microsoft (i.e., Excel &Outlook).
The described schedule may change due to the need of our patients and the Company. As required this position will be rotated among ABHS clinics.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $14.00 - $15.00 per hour
