Chemist

ATLAS Minerals & Chemicals, Inc., a manufacturer of corrosion-resistant materials and industrial compounds, is seeking a Chemist for our R&D lab.

Job Requirements and Capabilities

Minimum 3 years experience in an industrial R&D setting with a BS degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related science. Will consider candidates without a BS degree and 5 years of relevant experience.

Experience in formulating and testing thermoset resin-based coatings, adhesives, sealants, or elastomers is highly desired.

Experience in mechanical testing is required. Analytical experience to utilize FTIR and Thermal Analysis is desirable.

Experience with compliance or OH&S is a plus.

Good verbal and written communication skills. Good analytical and problem solving skills.

Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision.

Responsibilities

Understand the various types of chemistries used in the company and apply that knowledge to formulate new products or reformulate existing products to maintain or improve product performance.

Independently develop new products from bench formulation to plant production and customer trials.

Develop manufacturing protocols with appropriate specification and quality control criteria.

Evaluate and approve alternatively sourced raw materials for use in existing products as needed.

Synthesize, formulate, and test developmental products and analyze results.

Provide manufacturing support, including new product scale up or evaluations of alternative raw materials as needed.

Be able to react quickly to changing priorities.

Report on all activities monthly to Research and Development Manager.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $68,000.00 - $82,000.00 per year
