What are the responsibilities and job description for the Compost Facility Operations Manager position at Atlas Organics?
We are looking for a Manager to join our team! The Site Manager will manage the day-to-day operations of a single compost facility under the guidance of the General Manager, establishing and maintaining performance & productivity metrics and cost management processes.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manages the day-to-day operations of the facility in conjunction and with the knowledge of the local and state regulation, providing daily support to on-site staff, ensuring quality and budget performance.
- Executes necessary precautions to ensure safety and environmental compliance with Company, OSHA, and other standards.
- Regular communication with staff, sales team, management and customers to keep stakeholders informed, and ensure production output based on sales.
- Ensures thorough root cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, following-up with consistent discipline and retraining.
- Monitors budget and operating metrics while diagnosing and improving processes, procedures, and performance.
- Executes the Market’s strategic capital budget, ensuring effective use of the budget through asset allocation.
- Oversees personnel needs of the department including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
- Responsible for scheduling equipment usage and staff, including preventative maintenance and repairs, using maximum equipment utilization strategy.
- Formulates both short-term and long-term goals and action plans in conjunction with the General Manager.
- Responsible for KPI, P&L forecast, and unity financial state, by participating in regular P&L reviews to ensure that budgets are met; develops and implements programs for optimal equipment utilization, equipment maintenance, and labor and material costs.
- Interacts with local city, municipal, and county agencies to ensure customer satisfaction, improve efficiency; establishes Atlas Organics as a good corporate citizen and valued resource.
- Engages suppliers in problem solving and participates in suppliers’ improvement processes by providing performance feedback on supplier surveys.
- Minimizes the total number of suppliers used by working with supplier partners to eliminate/reduce the number of one-time suppliers.
- Provide leadership and works with functional groups to promptly resolve employee relations and labor relations issues.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Education, Licenses and Certifications:
- Associate’s degree or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years of relevant work experience
- State issued, valid Driver’s License
Knowledge & Experience:
- Three (3) years' experience in composting, recycling, or solid waste operations, working under various regulatory agencies, which includes people management experience
- Experience utilizing equipment such as grinders, shredders, and screeners preferred
- Experience and understanding in preventative maintenance and diagnosing of equipment
- Experience in P&L, forecasting and budgeting
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local job site health and safety rules, regulations, and best practices

Work Environment
- Normal work environment is outdoors, with exposure to all weather conditions, dirt, high levels of noise, smells/odors and at times exposure to dangerous and/or toxic substances requiring necessary precautions, including PPE.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those which must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Position requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including hearing protection, safety-toed boots, utility gloves, hard hat, reflective vest, and safety glasses. Must be able to grasp, grip controls, walk, bend, climb, crouch, reach and push/pull 50-75% of the workday, as well as perform work in all weather conditions while maintaining a steady work pace. Lifting is required at times up to 50 pounds, repetitively.
