Position Overview:

The Pre-Press Specialist will be responsible for preparing graphic files submitted by designers and clients for output on multiple large-format print devices. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of pre-press processes, print file preparation, and experience with color correction, layout adjustments, and troubleshooting. This role requires attention to detail, technical expertise, and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment while maintaining high-quality output.

Key Responsibilities:

  • File Preparation and Pre-Flighting: Review and preflight graphic files submitted by designers and clients, ensuring all components are present, including fonts, colors, resolution, and sizing. Ensure that files meet technical specifications before sending to production.
  • File Formatting and Manipulation: Format, color correct, and manipulate files according to client specifications. Adjust and optimize files for output on multiple print devices, including large-format printers.
  • File Setup and Processing: Set up files, including enlargements and composition, and process files to ensure they are ready for various printing formats. Prepare files for output on large-format printers and other print devices.
  • RIP and Print Media Handling: Rip files using Onyx-based software and load/unload printers with the appropriate print media. Monitor the printing process to ensure output is accurate and meets quality standards.
  • Collaboration with Design and Production Teams: Communicate with designers, clients, and production teams to address missing or problematic components of print jobs. Provide guidance on file adjustments to ensure smooth production workflows.
  • Quality Control: Perform quality control checks on digital files and proofs to ensure the output meets client specifications and printing standards.
  • File Management and Archiving: Organize and store digital files on Mac-based equipment for easy retrieval and future use. Ensure proper file archiving for reprints and future reference.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with the latest printing technologies, pre-press software, and industry trends. Continuously improve pre-press processes for greater efficiency and higher-quality output.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Software Proficiency: Strong knowledge of design, layout, image, and color editing software, including Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat. Experience with Onyx software for RIP management.
  • Print Production Knowledge: Deep understanding of digital printing processes, including large-format printing, and experience with print file preparation.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot file issues such as missing fonts, color discrepancies, resolution issues, and other print-related problems. Proactive in identifying and resolving issues before production.
  • Attention to Detail: Highly detail-oriented, ensuring that files meet technical specifications and quality standards before going to print.
  • Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks, adapt to changing priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Independence and Team Collaboration: Capable of working independently with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively with design and production teams.
  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience working in pre-press or large-format print production, with a strong focus on digital file preparation and print troubleshooting.
  • Adaptability: Ability to work with a variety of print media, tools, and technologies, with a willingness to learn and adapt to new methods and equipment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with pre-press workflow automation tools.
  • Familiarity with offset printing processes.
  • Experience with RIP software beyond Onyx.
  • Knowledge of color management and calibration processes.
  • Familiarity with file preparation for packaging or large-format print jobs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
