Role Overview and Responsibilities
- Ensure all activities are performed safely, within relevant regulatory and client requirements, and in accordance with SSU standards.
- Ensure the use of client policies, procedures, and processes when applicable. These include, but are not limited to: Permit to work, Safe Job Analysis, Lockout/Tag Out, confined space entry, etc. If qualified, approve work permits according to permit-to-work procedures.
- Maintain working knowledge of regulatory requirements, perform required tasks, and complete associated documentation (OSHA, DOT, EPA, etc.).
- Plan, organize, and prioritize assigned responsibilities and coordinate work with employees and contractors.
- Provide on-call support for areas of responsibility on a rotating basis.
- Operate Pressure Relieving Devices for launching and receiving facilities
- Operations of a compressor/pipeline system (Pipeline Facility)
- Compressor/Valve Operation – Operator can perform duties related to swapping and operating compressors/valves.
- Perform maintenance on compressors/valves.
- Inspect, Test, and Calibrate Compressors/Valves.
- Inspect, Test, and Calibrate Overfill Protective Devices.
- Repair compressors/valves.
- Application and Repair of External Coating.
- Verifying or setting protection parameters for programmable controllers and or instrumentation control loops.
- Testing an emergency shutdown device.
Competencies
- Shall demonstrate technical knowledge of client government & client policies, codes & regulations.
- Be able to Interpret readings of meters, gauges, pumps, compressors, instrument readings and charts to determine operational capabilities and/or issues.
- Able to prepare reports, generate detailed records and handover notes as required to facilitate proper communications.
- Must be proficient in the use of all Microsoft Office software modules, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint MS Office software and others. Skilled in word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software with the ability to learn new programs
- Perform energy isolation lockout/tagout procedures (LOTO).
- Performing general compressor/valve repair activities
- LOTO – Operator can perform and document LOTO when needed using client procedures.
- Ability to work under DOT, OQ and PSM regulation
- Ability to perform as a (QPA) Qualified Permitting Authority (Onshore) with comprehensive knowledge of (WR’s) Safe Work Requirements.
- Knowledgeable in best practices for operation, installation, construction and maintenance
- Basic understanding of surface equipment, normal conditions and abnormal conditions for reporting purposes; any leaks
- Knowledge of facility’s systems able to perform operations/maintenance and repairs to compressors
- Basic knowledge of Fluid Mechanics: Pressure, Level, Flow, Temperature & Level parameters, measurement
- Must be able to understand written, diagrammatic, and/or verbal instructions and determines appropriate actions for all work performed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent: Required
- Relevant experience about oil & gas industry: >3 year
- Technical certification or equivalent training in a processing plant, pipelines or similar: Required
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record: Required

- Responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining compressors and related equipment used for gas compression at oil and gas facilities. The operator ensures optimal performance, safety, and efficiency of the compressors while adhering to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
