Staff Accountant

Atlas Molded Products, a Division of Atlas Roofing Corporation, specializes in the development and manufacture of innovative, high-quality, HFC- and HCGC- free Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) insulation for construction, packaging, and original equipment management (OEM) products. Atlas EPS insulation is suitable for interior and exterior construction applications, various packaging uses and as part of manufactured systems, such as recreational vehicles, garage and pedestrian doors and sunroom panels.

Atlas Molded Products is seeking a Staff Accountant for the Byron Center, Michigan facility.

In the Staff Accountant role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. In addition, this role provides information, primarily financial in nature, about company activities that assist management, its shareholders and other users in making educated economic decisions about the Company’s future. It includes a multitude of accounting activities including, but not limited to, general ledger preparation, financial reporting, and year end audit preparation.

Staff Accountant Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Ensure all financial transactions are recorded in a timely manner in appropriate accounts and in accordance with GAAP.
• Prepare monthly general ledger, accruals, and reconciliations.
• Prepare schedules and compile documentation for annual financial audit.
• Work with Regional Accounting Manager and Costing Manager to review and analyze standard / actual cost, rates and application of these costs in the ERP system.
• Establish and maintain systems and internal controls that verify the integrity of systems, processes and data to enhance the Company’s values.
• Work with Accounts Payable personnel and AR/AP manger to ensure vouchers are keyed timely and utilizing the correct general ledger coding. Address issues timely where necessary.
• Work with Accounts Receivable personnel and AR/AP manager to ensure invoices are processed timely and accurately. Address issues timely where necessary.
• Work with plant personnel and management to ensure inventory process, and counts are done timely and accurately. Address issues where necessary.
• Work with plant personnel and management to ensure fixed asset processes and procedures are followed, along with accurate recording of fixed asset transactions in the ERP system.
• Respond to executive management as assigned with accurate and timely work to facilitate financial needs.
• Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports.
• Communicate with co-workers, management, clients and others in a courteous and professional manner.
• Must be trained in General Safety.
• Specialized training within area of focus may be required.
• Performs other functions and responsibilities as assigned.
• Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance is required.
• Periodic travel, less than 20%, may be required.

Staff Accountant Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in business with emphasis in accounting or finance, or equivalent number of years of experience.
• Extensive computer skills, particularly ERP systems and Excel.

• Must be computer literate: Excel, Word, Outlook and ERP (PeopleSoft a plus).
• Must have high level of cost and financial management knowledge.
• Must exhibit a strong logic and reasoning ability.
