We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Surgical Oncology Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our client’s dynamic healthcare team. The NP will work in collaboration with surgical oncologists to provide comprehensive care to patients undergoing cancer surgery. This role includes preoperative evaluations, intraoperative assistance, postoperative care, and long-term follow-up with cancer patients. The NP will play a critical role in patient management, ensuring high-quality care throughout the treatment journey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive preoperative assessments, including medical history reviews, physical exams, and diagnostic testing.
- Educate patients and families on surgical procedures, risks, and postoperative expectations.
- Collaborate with surgical teams to develop preoperative care plans.
- Assist surgeons during operative procedures as needed.
- Monitor patients during surgery and ensure smooth transitions between operative stages.
- Manage postoperative recovery by conducting rounds, assessing wounds, and monitoring for complications.
- Prescribe medications and therapies in line with recovery goals and patient needs.
- Coordinate care plans for discharge and ensure smooth transitions to outpatient settings.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including oncologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, to provide holistic care.
- Monitor ongoing patient progress, adjust treatment plans as needed, and manage side effects of treatment.
- Educate patients and families on cancer treatment, surgical outcomes, and supportive care options.
- Provide long-term follow-up care, including surveillance for cancer recurrence and management of any long-term side effects or complications.
- Lead patient education on preventive care, healthy lifestyle changes, and rehabilitation.
- Maintain accurate and thorough medical records.
- Participate in team meetings, tumor boards, and case reviews.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the surgical oncology department.
Requirements:
- Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- Current NP licensure in NJ.
- Board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP).
- BLS/ACLS certification.
- Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) preferred, but not required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner, preferably in oncology or surgery.
- Experience in managing surgical oncology patients is highly preferred.
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
- Excellent communication and patient education abilities.
Please note- The annual base salary range is $120k to $160k. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
