Job Description:
The Assistant Controller will assist in the finance and accounting functions of two publicly traded entities, a credit-focused residential mortgage REIT and a CLO closed-end fund. The Assistant Controller will report to the Controller and will also work closely with the public-company Chief Financial Officers as well as the rest of the Public Funds Reporting Team and other personnel. Use of Excel, SQL, Bloomberg and Ellington proprietary systems will be routine. The position is based in Old Greenwich, CT and could include a partial remote-working component.
Responsibilities will include:
- Build and maintain financial reporting models and analytics, as well as create ad hoc reports for management and tax compliance.
- Assist in development of management reporting for fully consolidated subsidiaries and significant equity stakes.
- Build and maintain reconciliations between administrator data and internal portfolio management systems.
- Interact with portfolio management, risk, trade settlement, tax, and system development groups to accomplish tasks.
- Assist in preparation of quarterly and annual regulatory and investor reporting (10Q/K, earnings releases, board packages, market data).
Company Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting, with demonstrated academic excellence.
- CPA preferred
- 5-10 years of public accounting/fund accounting experience
- Understanding of complex legal structures and related accounting consolidation issues is a plus
- Knowledge of REITs, loan originations and whole loans, structured products including mortgage-back securities, and derivatives is a plus.
- Quick and flexible learner with initiative to execute on projects independently.
- Excellent analytical, quantitative and computer skills – extensive knowledge of Excel is a requirement; familiarity with SQL or other computer programming is a plus
- Strong communication, problem solving skills, interpersonal skills, and leadership ability.
- Detail oriented and organized, with a willingness to learn and be challenged.
Salary : $160,000 - $210,000
