Job Description
As a 1st Class Structural Steel Fitter at Atlas Welding & Fabrication, Inc., you will be responsible for assembling and fitting together large structural steel components, including beams, columns, and plates. Your attention to detail and expertise in reading blueprints and operating welding equipment will ensure the precise fit and finish of each component.
Key Responsibilities
- Reading and interpreting blueprints: Accurately interpret complex engineering drawings and weld symbols to determine the precise placement and fit of each steel component.
- Layout and marking: Accurately lay out dimensions and cutting lines on steel stock using measuring tools and chalk lines.
- Fitting and aligning components: Precisely position and fit steel parts together, using hand tools, jigs, and fixtures to ensure proper alignment and tolerances.
- Tack welding: Perform initial welding to temporarily secure components in place before final welding.
- Complex welding techniques: Execute various welding techniques, including fillet welds, butt welds, and groove welds, with high precision.
- Quality control: Inspect welds and fitted components to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Operating machinery: Utilize overhead cranes, power shears, and other fabrication equipment to move and manipulate large steel pieces.
