Atlassian is looking for a Principal Data Scientist to join our Experimentation Data Science team. This team partners with the experimentation engineering team to enhance Atlassian’s experimentation capabilities by delivering training, tools, and analyses to facilitate quick decision-making.
Your future team
The Experimentation Data Science team is part of the Atlassian Corporate Engineering Organization, focusing on increasing the velocity and value of experiments. We collaborate cross-functionally with teams in GTM, growth, product, data engineering, and analytics platforms, providing expertise and hands-on support for large-scale experimentation.
What you’ll do
As a Principal Experimentation Data Scientist, you will drive experimentation practices and analyses, collaborating with business, engineering, and analytics teams to enable trustworthy decisions at scale. You will lead the organization in developing and adopting innovative methods to enhance the speed of the experimentation lifecycle.
Your background
On the first day, we'll expect you to have
- Master or PhD in a quantitative subject (Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research, or relevant work experience)
- 5 years of related industry experience in data science and experimentation
- Experience building and scaling experimentation practices, statistical methods, and tools in large organizations
- Experience with causal inference, multi-arm bandits, reinforcement learning, synthetic data, and non-parametric methods
- Expertise in SQL, familiarity with Python, and knowledge of Spark and cloud data environments (e.g., AWS, Databricks)
- Ability to communicate and explain data science concepts to diverse audiences
- Focus on business practicality and the 80 / 20 rule, balancing output quality with timely delivery
- Agile development mindset, valuing constant iteration and improvement
