What are the responsibilities and job description for the Test Development Engineer position at Atomic Machines?
Atomic Machines is ushering in a new era in micromanufacturing with its Matter Compiler (MC) technology. The MC enables new classes of micromachines to be designed and built by offering manufacturing processes and a materials library that is inaccessible to semiconductor manufacturing methods. The MC promises to unlock MEMS manufacturing both for the many device classes that never could be made by semiconductor methods but also to open up entirely new classes. Furthermore, the MC is fully digital in the way 3D printing is digital, but where 3D printing produces parts of a single material using a single process, the MC is a multi-process, multi-material technology: bits and raw materials go in and complete, functional micromachines come out. The Atomic Machines team has also created an exciting first device – one that was only made possible by the existence of the Matter Compiler – that we will be unveiling to the world soon.
Our offices are in Berkeley and Santa Clara, California.
About This Role:
Atomic Machines builds novel electronic devices, manufactured on our robotic fabrication platform. We are looking for a well rounded engineer to join our Test team. This person will primarily focus on software development work (firmware / Python) within the context of building and implementing Test infrastructure. This encompasses developing test instrumentation to guide device design as well as inline production testing to ensure product quality.
\n- Develop novel test instrumentation.
- Build interfaces to electronics with microcontrollers.
- Build interfaces to test instrumentation with Python.
- Integrate off-the-shelf instrumentation with existing and custom tests.
- Document test instrumentation design and operating procedures.
- Debug and validate tests.
- Participate in test definition and architecture.
- Help transfer tests from development to production.
- Work closely with colleagues in Devices and Manufacturing to scope/develop new tests.
- Maintain Test development facilities.
- 3-6 years of relevant experience.
- Maker mentality.
- Hardware bring-up and debugging skills.
- Ability to develop code for microcontrollers in C or C .
- Experience with a modern language (Python / Java / C# / Go).
- Ability to produce clean, well-documented, and encapsulated code in a team environment.
- Familiarity with standard electronic test equipment.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Science (CS), or a related field. A background in Physics is highly desirable.
- Analog / mixed-signal design experience.
- Experience with a 10k line object-oriented codebase.
- Experience with SQL or other database; ORM.
- Experience with precisely timed measurements via microcontroller.
- Solid lab skills - soldering, physically building/testing HW.
