POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Head Athletic Trainer will oversee the daily operations of sports medicine for
Carolina Core Football Club. CCFC is a member of the MLS NEXT Pro soccer league, located in High
Point, North Carolina. Job duties include focusing on injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and
rehabilitation of player health issues. This role will be performed under the guidance of the Chief Medical
Officer, and Director of Sports Performance.
Working closely with the Head Coach, General Manager, and the Sports Performance team, the Head
Athletic Trainer will play an integral part in daily operations of the Club. As a full-time, year-round
employee, this position requires attendance at all training sessions, scrimmages, and both home and
away games, ensuring that two certified Athletic Trainers are present at all matches.
This position is managed by the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Department of Orthopaedics Surgery
and Rehabilitation. The Head Athletic Trainer is an employee of Atrium Health and their assigned work
location is with the CCFC.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in athletic training from a Commission on Accreditation of
Athletic Training Education (CAATE) program; Master’s degree preferred. Minimum two (2) or more years’
experience as a BOC Certified Athletic Trainer at the professional, college or university setting, preferably
with soccer team. Experience with elite level athletes. Experience working in a high tempo, high stress
environment. Comprehension of Spanish preferred.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:
Certified Athletic Trainer by NATA Board of
Certification. Currently licensed or eligible for a State of North Carolina License in Athletic Training within
30 days of hire. Ability to complete American Heart Association Healthcare Provider (BLS), which
includes CPR and AED training within 30 days of hire.

application of treatment modalities, and the development and execution of rehabilitation and

process to help benchmark and quantify where the athlete is at through the recovery period.
- Create a comprehensive programming for the entirety of the rehab process to be shared with all
necessary stakeholders. This program should be shared and discussed with the appropriate

- Implement treatment program objectives including long and short term goals and an appraisal of

- Liaise with the strength & conditioning team to determine the appropriate workload (on-field & in
weight room) during the End Stage rehab period prior to clearance for return to competition.
- Report updated player status daily to necessary stakeholders and Club staff.
- Lead daily and weekly meetings with all relevant performance and medical staff members to
update status of injured athletes and formulate new plans and programs.
- Complete set-up of all practice and games including medical supplies, fracture management
equipment, hydration, cryotherapy, and any other supplies needed for adequate coverage.
- Manage the ordering, inventory, and maintenance of supplies and clinical equipment.
- Ensure that the training room and clinic area are maintained in a safe, clean, and organized
condition.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date player health and participation records using the League's
electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Document injuries, treatments, and return-to-play dates electronically for purposes such as
workers' compensation claims and research.
- Initiate insurance and workers' compensation claims for players.
- Prepare and submit required reports to MLS.
- Assist in the organization and management of pharmaceutical inventory and records under the
supervision of the team physician.
- Coordinate and oversee physical examinations in compliance with MLS regulations.
- Supervise assistant athletic trainers, aides, and volunteers as necessary.
- Mentor and manage on site education of students enrolled in University-based athletic training education programs or any other healthcare professionals at outreach events (if applicable).
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills to collaborate with players, coaches, team personnel,
and MLS staff.
- Follow all MLS medical policies, protocols, and the Game Operations Manual.
- Advise players on dietary needs, nutritional supplements, and banned substances in accordance
with MLS.
- Engage in community service and educational initiatives related to sports medicine.
- Participate in activities, meetings, and programs as required by MLS.
- Adhere to OSHA standards regarding bloodborne pathogens.
