What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housekeeping and Laundry Supervisor position at Atrium Rehabilitation and Nursing Center?
Summary: The primary purpose of your job position is to plan, organize, develop, and supervise the overall operation of the Housekeeping & Laundry Services Departments in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing the facility, and as may be directed by the Administrator, to assure the facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English Language

- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions, and to accept constructive criticism when circumstances warrant such actions
- Must have the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc., of the Housekeeping & Laundry Department
- Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., the appearance of housekeeping areas, and must perform regular inspections of residents rooms / units for sanitation, odor, safety and proper performance of assigned duties
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies / personnel, and the general public
- Must be knowledgeable of housekeeping practices, procedures, and guidelines as well as the laws, regulations and guidelines governing housekeeping & laundry functions in the nursing care facility
- Must be able to follow written and oral instructions
- Must possess leadership ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel
- Must possess the ability to display patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning
- Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing housekeeping practices
- Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace
- Must be able to complete all other tasks as assigned by the Administrator, or designee
Qualifications: Must have, as a minimum, three (3) years of experience in supervisory capacity in a hospital, nursing care facility, or other related medical facility. Training in environmental control practices and procedure is preferred, but not required.
Education and / or Experiences: Must possess, as a minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent.
Working Conditions:
- Works in office areas as well as areas throughout the housekeeping & laundry service areas (resident rooms, therapy rooms, dietary, etc.)
- Moves intermittently during working hours
- Is subject to frequent interruptions
- Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies / personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances
- May be exposed to heat/cold temperatures in kitchen/storage areas
- May be subject to sudden temperature changes when entering refrigerator/freezer
- Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors
- Communications with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department directors
- Works beyond normal duty hours, on weekends and holidays when necessary.
- Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.)
- Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminates
- Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses
- May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals
