We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Project Accountant with a strong understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance to join our finance team. In this role, you will work hand in hand with project managers and local management to conduct financial accounting for various projects, ensuring accurate tracking, forecasting and reporting. You will also play a key role in maintaining SOX controls and compliance within the project accounting and revenue recognition processes.

- This role will be onsite in our Wixom, MI location so candidates must be able to be in the office 5 days a week.

In this role, you will work hand in hand with project managers and local management to conduct financial accounting for various projects, ensuring accurate tracking, forecasting and reporting. You will also play a key role in maintaining SOX controls and compliance within the project accounting and revenue recognition processes.
Responsibilities
- Manage the financial accounting for project-specific transactions, including revenue recognition, cost tracking, and invoicing.
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual project-related reconciliations and reporting.
- Prepare and maintain detailed project cost reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Monitor project budgets and expenditures, providing analysis and recommendations to project managers and senior leadership.
- Ensure that all project-related financial activities are compliant with internal controls and SOX requirements.
- Participate in the design, implementation, and testing of SOX controls related to project accounting processes.
- Prepare and support internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with SOX regulations and project accounting best practices.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including project managers, operations, and finance, to ensure accurate project financials.
- Assist in the development and improvement of project accounting processes, systems, and controls.
- Ensure proper documentation for all project transactions to support SOX audits and financial reporting.
- Support the preparation of financial statements for project-based accounting and ensure timely reporting in alignment with corporate deadlines.
- Assist with the preparation of monthly and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting for projects.
- Work with project managers to create accurate and timely forecasts for open and pending projects.
- Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
- Ability to work in office (Wixom, Michigan) five days a week
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with a focus on project accounting in a publicly traded company.
- Strong understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) regulations and internal controls.
- Experience in project-based accounting, including revenue recognition, cost tracking, and reporting.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and ERP systems; particularly JDE
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions.
- Experience working with internal or external auditors and managing compliance audits.
- Knowledge of financial reporting standards (e.g., GAAP, IFRS) and SOX compliance processes.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
