Job Summary:
The Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse provides direct, comprehensive patient care to individuals recovering from surgery or managing acute/chronic illnesses in a medical-surgical unit. This role involves utilizing the Nursing Process while adhering to hospital standards and ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment for patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Care:
- Conduct patient assessments, including physical, psychosocial, and health history evaluations.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Administer medications, treatments, and other interventions in accordance with provider orders.
- Monitor patients for changes in condition and respond appropriately to emergencies.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with physicians, allied health professionals, and support staff to coordinate care.
- Educate patients and families on care plans, discharge instructions, and medication use.
- Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Record assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes in compliance with hospital policies.
- Standards and Compliance:
- Adhere to all applicable State, Federal, and hospital regulations and guidelines.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized care environment.
- Leadership and Support:
- Supervise and delegate tasks to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs).
- Act as a resource for less experienced staff and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Licensure and Certification:
- Current and unencumbered RN License (state-specific).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (required).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification (preferred).
- Experience:
- Minimum of 1–2 years in a Med-Surg unit or equivalent experience in acute care settings.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in patient assessments, medication administration, and EMR systems.
- Strong critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills.
