Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pathology Assistant to join our laboratory team. The ideal candidate will work closely with pathologists, laboratory staff, and other healthcare professionals to provide critical support in the examination, dissection, and analysis of tissue specimens. This role is vital in ensuring the accuracy of diagnoses and the delivery of exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist pathologists in gross examination and dissection of surgical specimens.
- Prepare and submit tissue samples for microscopic examination.
- Perform quality assurance checks to ensure specimens are handled and processed accurately.
- Maintain and organize laboratory equipment, ensuring it is clean, sterilized, and functioning properly.
- Document findings, maintain accurate records, and enter data into laboratory information systems.
- Assist with autopsy procedures, including evisceration and dissection of organs.
- Ensure compliance with safety and infection control standards within the lab.
- Communicate effectively with pathologists, medical staff, and other team members regarding specimen handling and diagnostic needs.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, or Medical Technology) required.
- Completion of an accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program preferred.
Experience:
- Previous experience in pathology or a clinical laboratory setting preferred.
- Knowledge of laboratory techniques, medical terminology, and specimen handling required.
Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems and related software.
Job Types: Contract, Temporary
Pay: $55.34 - $70.51 per hour
