We are seeking a highly skilled Network Technician to provide critical support for network administration, security, and optimization for the Air Force Recruiting Service (AFRS). The ideal candidate will be responsible for configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting network infrastructure, ensuring secure and seamless connectivity. This role requires expertise in routers, switches, VPNs, wireless systems, and compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) cybersecurity policies.
Key Responsibilities: Qualifications - Experience & Skills
- 5 years of experience in network implementation, security, administration, and troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco routers (ISR), switches (Catalyst series), wireless controllers (WLC), and Identity Services Engine (ISE).
- Proficiency in configuring and supporting VPNs, firewalls, DNS, and DHCP.
- Strong understanding of LAN, WAN, and WLAN technologies, including VLANs and network segmentation.
- Experience with firewall security policies, traffic filtering, and intrusion detection.
- Familiarity with DISA STIGs and DoD cybersecurity policies.
- Proficiency in Wireshark, LLDP, CDP, and ARP Tables for network troubleshooting.
- Ability to create and maintain network documentation and technical reports.
- Must be a US Citizen eligible to OBTAIN a DoD Secret Clearance
Certifications & Education:
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) required (or equivalent).
- CompTIA Security CE (or equivalent) required, per DoD Directive 8140.03 – IAT-II.
Duties:
Network Administration & Support
- Manage daily operations and maintenance of network infrastructure, including Cisco switches, routers, VPNs, Wireless LAN Controllers (WLC), and Microsoft Windows Server systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve network outages, connectivity issues, and resource access problems.
- Apply vendor and DoD security patches to maintain system integrity.
- Support and maintain Virtual Private Network (VPN) solutions for secure remote access.
Infrastructure Configuration & Optimization
- Configure, install, and maintain network devices such as Cisco Integrated Services Routers (ISR), Cisco Catalyst Center (formerly DNAC), Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE), and load balancers.
- Conduct network modernization projects, including site surveys and infrastructure upgrades.
- Enhance network security by implementing firewall rules, VLAN segmentation, and traffic filtering.
- Utilize network monitoring tools such as Wireshark, LLDP, CDP, and ARP Tables for analysis and troubleshooting.
Cybersecurity & Compliance
- Implement DoD-mandated security configurations on all network devices.
- Ensure adherence to DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and AFRS security protocols.
- Monitor LAN/WAN traffic and remote access security to detect and address vulnerabilities.
Technical Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain network diagrams, documentation, and inventory reports.
- Provide weekly workload status reports, detailing unresolved issues and their resolutions.
- Assist in IT equipment upgrade recommendations and justifications.
Collaboration & Technical Support
- Work closely with AFRS IT teams, Client Service Center technicians, and system administrators to resolve network-related issues.
- Provide technical guidance on network best practices and security protocols.
Work Environment:
- Onsite at Joint Base San Antonio–Randolph, TX (JBSA-Randolph).
- Occasional travel may be required for site surveys, installation, or troubleshooting.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and install network equipment, such as routers and switches.
