Job Purpose: The role of the Lead Resident Services Assistant position is to provide assistance, direction and leadership to all other Resident Services Assistants on the shift to ensure cares are delivered in accordance with DHS 83 and 89 regulations.
Hours: 0.2 FTE / working e/o weekend am shift
Essential Job Duties (in order of priority):
1. Coordinates and assists in organizing caregiver staffing related to:
- Census / group assignment care load and make changes to daily assignment sheets and ensure tasks / information / report is relayed.
- May need to work in all care areas and report in other areas as assigned.
- Training / orientation assignments and assisting with training of new RSA’s.
- Call-ins (assist to determine staffing needs, initiate implementation staffing policies).
- Assist with executing the residents’ daily schedule.
- Remind staff to required tools for job, such as phone for call lights.
2. Facilitates communication of information and care needs:
- Communicates directly with the Scheduler, Supervisor, or Manager on Call.
- Relays resident and employee / unit concerns to the Resident Services Manager Team.
- Provides written or verbal / physical instructions on training, teaching, and procedural care matters
- Provides input in completing caregiver performance reviews.
- Facilitates communication between shifts.
3. Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): Provides assistance with:
- Dressing and undressing (clothing should be clean and appropriate for the season)
- Bathing
- Personal hygiene (shaving, dental hygiene, nail care, hair care, foot care)
- Mobility devices (cane, walker, wheelchair, crutches) including monitoring of safe transfer and ambulation techniques
- Care of devices such as eyeglasses, contact lenses, hearing aids
- Fostering independence and choice as possible
- Application of ointments / treatments per plan of care and level of training
4. Instrumental Activities of Daily Living: Provides assistance with:
- Light housekeeping tasks such as emptying trash, bed making, general pick up and straightening
- Laundry (where applicable)
- Escorts and coordinating internal transportation needs
- Mail delivery, residents' personal correspondence
5. Health Maintenance and Monitoring Tasks:
- Observes and reports changes in residents' physical condition and cognitive/emotional status to the Shift Supervisor or Manager on call as needed.
- Obtains and records vital signs and weights and records/audit/report
- Conducts room checks and resident rounds
- Monitors for and corrects environmental safety hazards
- Records near misses or errors, EMR
- Records resident and resident-related events in PCC.
- Documentations as delegated.
- Medication Administration as assigned.
- Cycle Fill medication Reconciliation as assigned.
- Assists with S fax access and processes faxes as directed.
- Contacts Pharmacy as needed to follow up on medications/refills needed.
6. Dining / Nutrition:
- Assists in a variety of tasks related to dining (ie. escort residents to dining room, set up and clean tables, serve meals, light cooking, and bus tables).
- Provide support of proper set-up, cueing, use of adaptive equipment.
- Provides feeding assistance as appropriate
7. Activity Program:
- Responsible for participating in and supporting the resident centered activity program, including transporting and assisting with dietary needs at events.
- Initiate and facilitate small group and 1:1 activity.
8.Participates in unit cleaning duties such as sweeping / vacuuming after meals, cleaning unit refrigerators, facility and resident equipment cleaning per care area needs and expectations.
9. Emergency Preparedness:
- Responds to and acts appropriately in emergency or disaster situations
- Performs resident care utilizing Universal Precautions.
10. Performs resident care utilizing Universal Precautions.
11. Leadership:
- Plans and completes duties with minimal direction from supervisor or nurse.
- Carries Community phone when on duty as directed by Supervisor.
- Communicates shift report to Managers via email
- Follows up with appropriate staff, residents, or other individuals regarding reported complaints, problems, and concerns.
- Acts as ambassador and public relations representative to guests and other visitors.
- Provides guidance and serves as resource to all other non-licensed direct care staff.
- Make rounds at beginning, end & throughout shift to ensure other non-licensed direct care staff providing care according to care plan.
- Communicates with and provides updates to resident’s responsible party and medical provider in a professional and effective manner and documents the communication per procedure
12. Provides safe environment for residents, visitors and staff.
13. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with residents, their families, fellow employees, volunteers and the general public.
14. Administrative Responsibilities:
- Makes photocopies, runs reports from the medical record, assists with gathering paperwork/ filling out forms as assigned
- Coordinates daily resident assignments
Licenses & Certifications: Must be 18 years old, High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred. Must have all Wisconsin CBRF required courses, including Medication Administration Course. C.N.A certification preferred.
