This is a brief synopsis of overall job duties.
To provide direct nursing care to the residents and to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by Licensed Practical Nurses and nursing assistants in accordance with current federal, state and local standards governing the facility, and as may be directed by the Director of Nursing Services, Assistant Director of Nursing Services and Administrator, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Must be a Registered Nurse in good standing and meet all applicable federal and state licensure requirements.
- Must be able to supervise and instruct others.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend English effectively.
- Must be knowledgeable of general, rehabilitative and restorative nursing and medical practices and procedures and laws, regulations and guidelines governing long-term care.
- Background clearance mandatory (TB, Drug Screening, Physical…)
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
- Must be positive team player and maintain a positive attitude.
- Positive attitude toward the elderly
Education- Certificates, Licenses or Registrations:
- Must currently be licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Kansas and have a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or an Associate’s Degree in Nursing.
Experience:
- Must be considered capable of performing duties.
- Orientation to facility’s policies and procedures.
- Reviews Nursing Care Plans of residents.
- Supervisory experience needed
- Ability to work with others
- Ability to assure resident care is being completed properly

Registered Nurses Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: (Other duties may be assigned.)
Administrative Functions Duties:
- Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants
- Periodically review and make recommendations for revisions of written nursing policies, procedures, manuals, objectives and philosophies.
- Complete and maintain medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, and charts and submit to appropriate offices or department for processing.
- Periodically meet with assigned nursing staff in planning shifts, services, programs and activities.
- Admit, transfer and discharge residents as required.
- Ensure that all nursing services personnel are performing their respective duties in accordance with written policies, procedures and manuals.
- Participate in surveys and inspections by government agencies.
- Interpret a department’s policies and procedures to personnel, residents, families, visitors and government agencies as necessary.
- Make reports and recommendations to the Director of Nursing and Administrator concerning operations of the department.
Nursing Care Functions Duties:
- Participate in the orientation of new residents and family members
- Inform personnel of new admissions, ensure that room are ready, greet new admissions and escort to rooms
- Implement and maintain established nursing objectives and standards
- Make periodic reviews, monitor residents’ treatment and medications and make independent decisions regarding nursing care to ensure residents are receiving proper care
- Work with consultants and implement changes as necessary
- Ensure cleanliness and safety of all nursing services treatment areas
- Make rounds with physicians as necessary and ensure proper recordkeeping
- Consult with physicians in providing care, treatment, diagnostic and therapeutic services, and notify physicians of resident accidents, incident and changes in conditions.
- Coordinate social and activity programs with nursing services schedules
- Meet with residents and families and report problems areas
- Carry out restorative, rehabilitative and self-help care programs
- Administer professional services and provide direct nursing care as necessary
- Inform family members of the death of a resident, call funeral homes when requested and ensure that established post- mortem procedures are followed.
Personal Functions Duties:
- Supervise and instruct nursing services personnel, develop work assignments
- Make recommendations to administration as necessary to ensure adequate staffing and expedite work.
- Delegate administrative authority, responsibility and accountability to nursing services personnel as deemed necessary to perform assigned duties
- Make daily rounds and ensure that all nursing services personnel are performing duties in accordance with acceptable nursing standards
- Ensure the personnel, residents and visitors follow established policies and procedures at all times
- Meet with nursing personnel on a regular basis to identify and correct problems areas and to improve nursing services
- Give and review nursing reports
- Carry out necessary personnel disciplinary actions
- Provided supervision and leadership to other nursing services personnel assigned to the shift and unit
- Take personnel complaints and grievances to the Director of Nursing or Administrator.
Residents’ Rights Function Duties:
- Maintain resident confidentiality and privacy
- Treat residents with kindness, dignity and respect
- Know and comply with and ensure that all nursing services personnel know and comply with Residents’ Rights rules
- Monitor nursing services to ensure that residents’ rights and needs are met
- Promptly report to the Director of Nursing or the Administrator and maintain written records of all resident complaints and grievances.
Care Plan and Assessment Functions Duties:
- Assist and participate in developing for each resident a preliminary and comprehensive assessment and written care plan that identifies the nursing and medical problems and/or needs of the resident and the goals to be accomplished for each problem and/or need identified.
- Encourage residents and their families to participate in the development and review of care plans.
- Ensure that all nursing services personnel are aware of the care plans and that care plans are used in providing daily nursing services to the residents.

Physical and Sensory Requirements
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
- Must be able to speak, read and write the English language in an understandable manner to ensure proper documentation is accurately completed.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position and calmly communicate with the residents during the stressful times.
- Must possess touching, sight, taste and hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met, such as the ability to distinguish smells, taste, temps and hear and respond to paging systems.
- Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with the residents, personnel and support agencies.
- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility which include a medical and physical examination.
- Must be able to relate to, communicate and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of waist level and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight.
- May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
- Standing, walking, bending and lifting will occur throughout entire shift.
- Must be able to reach, grasp and have fine hand coordination.
- Must be able to utilize gait belts, sit to stand, and hoyer lifts to transfer residents.
- Ability to understand and apply training

- Attend mandatory in-services.
