JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Lead Bookseller
SUMMARY:
Perform a variety of duties to greet, assist, and sell books and gift items to customers of the bookstore. Perform miscellaneous duties in maintaining appearance of bookstore.
Perform receiving book, gift and stationery products.
Assists Bookstore Manager/Supervisor in keeping Booksellers on task.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greet customers and ascertain what each customer wants or needs.
- Assist customers in finding merchandise and provide recommendations and other information as required.
- Operate cash register to ring purchases and receive and process cash or credit payment following standardized procedures.
- Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, policies regarding payment and exchanges, and security practices.
- Maintain accurate records related to sales.
- Follow theft prevention measures such as monitoring cameras and alerting other staff for assistance.
- Ensure the bookstore’s appearance meets prescribed standards in cleanliness, neatness, and attractive displays by performing daily housekeeping tasks such as dusting, straightening and vacuuming.
- Assist in processing and shelving books following prescribed procedures.
- Assist in processing and merchandising gift and card products following prescribed procedures.
- Assist in processing and completing returns and market transfers.
- Assist in bank runs and maintaining adequate change for the safe
- Work as a team.
- Assists in keeping booksellers on task in the absence of Bookstore Manager or Supervisor.
REPORTS TO: Bookstore Manager / Supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Keeping Bookseller’s on task in the absence of Bookstore Manager/Supervisor.
- Acts as manager in the absence of manager/supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Demonstrated knowledge of principles and processes for providing quality customer services. This includes customer needs assessment and meeting quality standards for customer service and customer satisfaction.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma, some college (two years) preferred. Basic math skills. Over one year of related experience in a library or bookstore required.
PHYSICAL AND VISUAL REQUIREMENTS:
Position performs physical activities that require:
- Significant time standing and moving about bookstore areas. Must use stairs regularly.
- Considerable use of arms and legs and moving whole body, reaching and stooping, occasionally (15% —40 %) moving light weight (5 lbs.—25 lbs.) or average weight material (25-60 lbs.) up or down stairs, balancing, or around bookstore areas.
- Handling and Moving Objects — Use of hands and arms in coordination to handle, position, and move materials, and manipulate things. Manual dexterity and fingering are required.
- Near vision—see objects at close range.
- • Problem Sensitivity — Able to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
- • Monitor Self, Others, Processes, Materials, or Surroundings — regularly review performance, materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems or take corrective action.

Basic reading and ability to interpret written material/books —in English. Able to express ideas and information in writing.
