Job Duties

**This is a Political Appointee position**

  • Serves as an advocate for constituents by mediating conflict, directing them to appropriate individuals and organizations, explaining the OAG's jurisdiction, problem solving, etc.
  • Works closely with the Outreach team handling constituent concerns from across the Commonwealth
  • Manages the OAG Constituent Email account, including monitoring, routing, and ensuring timely responses
  • Directs consumer complaints to the Consumer Protection section
  • Directs civil rights complaints to the Office of Civil Rights
  • Creates form letters for common constituent inquiries
  • Communicates the Attorney General's accomplishments and role effectively to constituents
  • Meets with constituents when problems arise to address concerns and facilitate resolutions
  • Supervises the part-time Constituent Affairs Assistant
  • Supervises the part-time Special Assistant to the Attorney General
  • Receives, tracks, and responds to constituent inquiries, complaints, and requests via telephone, email, mail, and in-person communications


Minimum Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of experience in constituent services, customer service, public relations, or related field
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain professional demeanor in challenging situations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Experience with constituent management databases or CRM systems preferred
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of Virginia state government structure and functions preferred
  • Ability to exercise discretion with confidential or sensitive information
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate records
  • Demonstrated commitment to public service

Additional Considerations

Bachelor's degree in public administration, political science, communications, or related field; or equivalent experience
