Duties Description Criminal Justice DivisionOffice of Special Investigation—Albany or New York City Assistant Attorney GeneralReference No. OSI_AAG_3764Application Deadline: February 28, 2025Salary Range: $81,159 - $173,265 $3,400 in location pay (New York City location only)To be considered for this opportunity, submit a complete application online at ag.ny.gov/job-postings/attorneysThe Office of the New York State Attorney General (OAG) is seeking an experienced prosecutor to serve as an Assistant Attorney General (AAG) in the Office of Special Investigation (OSI) in either Albany or New York City. OSI’s members investigate incidents throughout the state in which a police officer or a peace officer (including a corrections officer) has caused the death of a person. If warranted, OSI’s attorneys seek charges in connection with the incident and prosecute any resulting indictment. The AAG position provides a unique and exciting opportunity to join a team of experienced prosecutors, legal support staff, and detective investigators who work together to strengthen public trust in the criminal justice system. Depending on the location, the AAG will report to either OSI’s Downstate or Upstate Deputy Bureau Chief.
The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications Qualifications: • Applicants must have at least six (6) years of criminal prosecution and/or criminal defense experience, including substantial homicide trial and investigation experience.• Excellent legal writing and research skills, along with strong organizational, interpersonal communication, and teamwork skills are required. • Prior experience investigating complex cases in the grand jury is a plus.• Prior experience handling cases involving issues of causation, justification, or complex felony prosecutions is preferred.• Prior experience working with and in diverse communities and doing community outreach is also a plus.• On an as-needed basis, the availability to work outside of usual business hours and to travel outside the county of employment. Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York state and be admitted to practice law in New York state. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that OAG attorneys be citizens of the United States. A two (2) year commitment upon being hired is a condition of employment.
