Job Title: Piping Estimator
Location: Matthews, NC
Salary Range: $80,000 - $110,000 annually (dependent on experience and certifications)
We are looking for experienced Estimator for Piping to prepare detailed and comprehensive estimates for large, complex construction projects with a well-established construction company. The role involves evaluating client documents, ensuring accurate bid submissions, and providing complete conceptual and total bid prices.
What You will do:
- Review and evaluate RFQs, RFPs, and bid documents to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Develop RFIs for any inconsistencies or missing information in the contract documents.
- Ensure timely completion of estimates and revisions.
- Review estimates and revisions for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project requirements.
- Clarify exclusions and provide necessary explanations on the scope of work.
- Perform Quick-Pen take-offs and assess construction documents for proper scope.
- Obtain material pricing and verify scope from subcontractors.
- Prepare cost analyses by compiling material, labor, equipment, and other direct costs for installation.
- Estimate costs where predetermined standards are unavailable.
- Update the computer database for labor, material pricing, and other project-related information.
- Develop and maintain a database of vendors, subcontractors, product resources, and government requirements.
- Build and nurture relationships with vendors, subcontractors, and clients.
- Attend departmental meetings as needed and contribute to team discussions.
- Print documents and plans as necessary for project execution.
Skills & Requirements:
- Strong team player with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and clients.
- 8-10 years of related estimating experience or equivalent combination of education and expertise in HVAC and Piping systems.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting documents such as blueprints, safety manuals, bid front ends, and scopes of work.
- Experience with Quick-Pen software (or similar estimating software) strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with estimating techniques, cost control, and cost analysis methods.
- Ability to perform detailed labor and material take-offs for accurate estimates.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients, employees, or stakeholders.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.

- Accurate and thorough bid quotations with complete estimates.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with subcontractors and vendors.
- Strong teamwork and coordination across business units.
- Comparison of estimated costs vs. actual costs for project budgeting.
