What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estes Park, CO Weekend Instructor (part-time) position at Au Pair Weekend?
Au Pair Weekend is seeking energetic individuals to teach 3 - 4 times per year during an intensive weekend college program for au pairs held in Estes Park, CO. We are seeking qualified instructors with teaching, outdoor recreation, and international experience. Please include a resume and cover letter. Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
- Master’s degree required, preferably in a field related to the course curriculum.
- Teaching experience required, preferably in a higher education setting.
- International experience required, preferably experience living abroad.
- Ability to take initiative and modify teaching style to the needs of diverse students.
- Ability to lead students both in and out of the classroom setting (must be able to walk over rugged terrain).
- Passion and enthusiasm for the outdoors and ability to bring energy to the program.
- Ability to work 12-14 hour days.
Additional preferred qualifications
- Experience in outdoor recreation, including working knowledge of camping and hiking skills.
- Some experience with event planning.
- Leadership experience.
- Environmental Science education experience.
Job Description/Estimated Schedule:
- Work 3 - 4 times per year, Thursday morning through Sunday afternoon. Courses are held at the Salvation Army High Peak Camp in Estes Park. Staff will be required to stay overnight onsite Th, Fri, and Sat nights (private cabins available).
- 2025 course dates are: May 29 - June 1, August 14 -17, and (to be confirmed) November 20 - 23
- Each weekend course is approximately 40 hours in length, with an estimated additional 5 - 7 hours of staff preparation before each weekend.
- Instructors will be asked to teach approximately 7-8 classes and workshops during each weekend. Instructors are expected to become familiar with all curricula after having worked 2 - 3 course weekends. (Curriculum, with slides and lesson plans, is provided)
- The course is called “Wilderness and Wellness.” Classes and workshops highlight classic outdoor adventures, wellness activities, concepts of environmental stewardship, and mental and physical health practices that reinforce the harmony between self-care and environmental stewardship.
- Wilderness class topics include: Fire, Intro to Orienteering, Adventure Management, At Home in the Woods
- Wellness class topics include: Nature Connection & Creativity, Meditation & Mindfulness, Wellness Wherever, Maintaining Balance & Connection
- Instructors will also:
- Take student attendance.
- Supervise independent student activities around the camp property.
- Assist students with questions or concerns.
- Assist other staff as needed to ensure the weekend course runs smoothly.
Compensation:
After training, Instructors will be compensated at a rate of $28/hr for all scheduled work hours. Please note: sleeping time and free time outside of scheduled hours will not be compensated. Typical weekend schedules are: Thursday 10:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.; Friday 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.; Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.; Sunday 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Meals are included; however, meal breaks are not considered compensated time.
Instructors will complete two training/probationary weekends before being fully compensated. Training pay is $26/hr.
Up to 1 hour of prep time is included at your hourly rate for each lecture class you teach and 30 minutes of prep for each workshop you lead (one prep hour even if you teach the class multiple times). Prep time may be doubled your first time teaching a class. Class preparation should be completed before the course begins.
