Job Overview:
The Beloved Book Co. is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Manager to help oversee daily bookstore operations, ensure outstanding customer service, and support our team. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about books, enjoys interacting with people, and has strong leadership skills. The Assistant Manager will work closely with the store owner/manager to maintain inventory, coordinate events, and create an inviting and inspiring environment for customers.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in overseeing the daily operations of the bookstore
- Provide excellent customer service and cultivate a welcoming atmosphere
- Supervise, train, and support bookstore clerks and staff
- Manage inventory, restocking, and merchandising displays
- Assist with event planning, including book signings, readings, and community gatherings
- Operate the cash register, process transactions, and ensure accurate financial reporting
- Handle customer inquiries, special orders, and book recommendations
- Maintain store cleanliness and organization
- May be asked to travel to book related industry events with owner from time to time
- Support marketing efforts, including social media and promotional events
Qualifications:
- Previous retail, customer service, or management experience preferred
- Strong leadership and communication skills are a must
- Passion for books and knowledge of current literary trends
- Ability to multitask and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment
- Availability to work some evenings and weekends
- Ability to be on your feet for extended periods of time and move heavy boxes of books
- Basic proficiency with point-of-sale systems and inventory management
