Job Summary
The Office of Professional and Continuing Education is home to Auburn Youth Programs which operates academic summer camps for over 4,000 high school students throughout the summer. Camp counselors and staff will help Auburn Youth Programs bring our summer camps to life and help our campers have a unique experience at Auburn University. All curriculum instruction is facilitated by Auburn University faculty with counselors leading programming activities in the evenings. Counselors may only be enrolled in asynchronous online course for the duration of the summer. They may not take in person or synchronous courses while employed as a counselor.

Essential Functions

Counselor:
A successful Counselor will be an Auburn student with a passion for impacting and serving youth. We're looking for an individual that can lead and supervise camp participants in a variety of different activities. Counselors work in teams to ensure the smooth and safe operations of all AYP camps and programs and to create an extraordinary Auburn Experience for camp participants. Meals and overnight accommodations provided while working. Counselors must provide their own housing and dining while the camp is not in session. Counselors may only be enrolled in asynchronous online course for the duration of the summer. They may not take in person or synchronous courses while employed as a counselor.

Essential functions and duties:

  • Be an active participant in camp engaging enthusiastically in sessions and activities.
  • Escort campers to all daily programs and activities including time in dorms, walks across campus, all meals including those in dining halls, curriculum sessions, and recreation activities.
  • Serve as mentors and guides for campers by welcoming them into the Auburn family and demonstrating the Auburn spirit.
  • Accompany and maintain supervision with campers during camp related sessions, which can include on campus and off campus field trips, as well as in dining halls and overnight in dorms.
  • Assist with camp check in and check out, passing out camp materials, and any other logistic related tasks that are deemed necessary.
  • Uphold all AYP and Auburn regulations on minors, housing, etc.
  • Attend counselor training prior to the start of camps tentatively planned for the week of May 19th.
  • Any additional responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Have attended Auburn University for at least one year
    • Enrolled and taking classes during the semester of employment; or
    • Not enrolled in classes for the semester of employment, but enrolled in the previous semester and enrolled for the following semester.
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Be at least 19 years old on June 1, 2025, pass a background check, and possess a valid driver's license

Expectations:

  • Must have the patience, understanding, flexibility, and energy to work and live with campers and other counselors
  • Must exhibit professionalism at all times while working with Auburn University faculty and staff
  • Must be willing to sacrifice, adapt, and work hard as part of a team
  • Must be able to take care of others and display a positive attitude at all times
  • Serve as an ambassador for Auburn University and role model for all students
  • Possess excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Staff must be capable of physical labor (i.e. lifting approximately 20 lbs. or more)
Preferred Qualifications
Previous summer camp counselor experience or experience working with high school students.

Pay Rate $450 weekly stipend. Housing and meals provided while each camp is in session.
Work Hours Varies (no more than 40 hours/week)
