Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for an I npatient Vet Technician to work in the Intermediate Care ( IMC ), Intensive Care Unit ( ICU ), and Emergency Room (ER) section of our Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital . The individual in this position will work directly with the IMC clinicians and rotating intern doctors to help facilitate quality care and patient flow through the IMC , ICU , and ER.

  • This is an overnight shift rotating monthly between weekends and weekdays;

Monday - Thursday 10 : 00PM - 8 : 00AM, Friday -Sunday 7 : 00PM - 8 : 00AM.

  • Essential Functions

  • Administers treatments and monitoring of patients admitted in IMC or ICU , Observes and records vital data, abnormal signs, body weight, food / water intake of animals, and collects and labels specimens and perform treatments and administer medications as prescribed by primary veterinarian.
  • Performs, instructs, and demonstrates advanced veterinary care techniques and procedures related to emergency and critical care medicine.
  • Assists veterinarians in the care of patients requiring advanced procedures and life-saving techniques including CPR , mechanical ventilation and dialysis.
  • Inspects facilities, equipment, and supplies daily, as well as observes health status of animals, environmental conditions, temperature, and sanitation.
  • Performs emergency triage and stabilization of patients presenting through the Emergency service.
  • May be responsible for, or assist in, billing clients, inputting charges, and / or similar tasks.
  • This position will work to provide care for patients after hours, on weekends, and holidays.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    Depending upon a combination of education and experience, the finalist selected for this position will be hired as a Veterinary Technician - Inpatient and assigned levels I , II , or III .

    Level I : Requires an Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain certification.

    Level II : Requires an Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain certification plus 2 years of experience working in a veterinary hospital environment.

    Level III : Requires an Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain certification plus 4 years of experience working in a veterinary hospital environment.

    Substitutions allowed for Education :

    Indicated education is required; no substitutions allowed.

    Substitutions allowed for Experience :

    When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.

    Active license with the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medicine as a Veterinary Technician,

    Have met all requirements to become licensed in the State of Alabama. Licensure must be obtained within 6 months of hire date.
