Job Overview
The Internal Audit Division needs an experienced and motivated Senior Staff Auditor in its Technology Audit Department. The ideal candidate will have great project management, interpersonal, security-oriented, and technological skills. As a Senior Staff Technology Auditor, you will perform information systems and technology infrastructure audits to determine whether controls exist in protecting data and supporting operational needs.
The Senior Staff Technology Auditor will work under the direct leadership of the Technology Audit Manager with support from the Audit Director. The Senior Staff Technology Auditor will:
- Plan, execute, and report on information systems and technology infrastructure audits to assess Harris County's adherence to laws, regulations, and internal policies.
- Conduct annual risk assessments to identify potential compliance risks and develop strategies to mitigate the risks.
- Document well-reasoned audit planning processes that result in clear scope objectives and the clear identification of relevant risks, controls, and audit procedures.
- Prepare clear and concise audit reports and prepare work papers that highlight findings, recommendations, and corrective actions.
- Manage multiple concurrent priorities and complete assignments within time constraints and deadlines.
- Serve as a trusted advisor through amicable transparent and collaborative working relationships with the audit team and the client.
- Maintain current knowledge on fundamental IT audit risk/issues, security risks, emerging technologies, audit practices, and professional standards to ensure Harris County's program remains effective.
- Perform other administrative or special projects, as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, information technology or other related fields.
- CISA, CIA, CPA or progress toward one of these certifications is a plus.
Experience
- 2 years of experience in IT auditing.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
- Effective project management skills with the ability to adeptly handle multiple tasks.
- Experience leading audit engagements, serving as a subject matter expert on security and application controls, and advising on IT audit best practices.
- Knowledge and understanding of Institute of Internal Audit Standards (IIA), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Control Objectives for Information & Related Technologies (COBIT), Texas and Local Government Code, applicable regulations and/or policies and procedures.
- Ability to think critically and analyze complex issues and information.
- Advance knowledge of IT security and application controls.
- Strong written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Advance proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and audit electronic workpaper applications.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and consistently meet deadlines.
- Maintain a high degree of judgment, discretion, and confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Willingness to take on additional tasks and projects outside of core areas of expertise.
Nature of Work
- Physical requirements for the position are the ability to sit for extended periods of time and the ability to push/pull up to 50 lbs. and lift/carry up to 20 lbs.
- Occasional travel throughout Harris County will be required.
- Hybrid telework schedule | Monday - Friday | 40 hrs. per week | Exempt
- May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek or on weekends when special projects or deadlines need to be met.
