PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This unique performing arts camp brings together young people between the ages of 7 and 14 who have experienced the death of a parent to discover the healing power of creative play. Through the exploration and creation of dance, theatre, music, and visual arts, Hearts to Art inspires communication and collaboration, fosters emotional growth, and provides friendship, compassion, and community. Through interaction with young people who have experienced a similar loss, campers understand they are not alone. Small group healing sessions are facilitated by professional healing counselors, providing campers a safe time and place to express and share their feelings. There are also licensed healing counselors on site throughout the duration of camp to offer support to campers as needed.
Job Description
Group Leaders are responsible for assisting the instructors in Theatre, Music, Dance, and Visual Arts and for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of 8-10 campers throughout the day. Group Leaders make every effort to develop relationships with campers and supervise and assist during daily camp activities and during camp performances. Group Leaders work with the Teaching Artist and a Junior Counselor to bring an exciting and educational experience to their assigned group of campers.
2025 Camp Dates:
Session 1 (Grades 2-5): July 14 – July 25
Session 2 (Grades 6-9): July 28 – August 8
Group Leaders are present at camp 8:30am-4:30pm.
Pay rate $20 per hour.
Camp location is St. Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Church 5649 N. Sheridan Rd., Chicago IL 60660
Group Leaders duties include but are not limited to:
- Support instructors during class and participate in activities when appropriate and requested.
- Assist Teaching Artist and Clinical staff with conflict resolution
- Support campers during mid-camp talent show and final camp performances
- Interact with caregivers post camp performances
- Support camp administrative staff throughout camps
- Assist with daily activities such as lunches, breaks, outdoor activities, guest speakers, and field
trips
- Supervise campers throughout the day
- Work in collaboration with Teaching Artist, Junior Counselors, and Camp Leadership Team
- Attend pre-camp training sessions and weekly or daily meetings
- Follow all camp protocol and trauma informed teaching practices
- Mentor campers and serve as positive role model
- Support fellow camp staff and be a team player
- Maintain a positive attitude and have fun
