Job Overview: Director of Organic Search

As the Organic Search Director, your primary focus will be shaping and implementing organic strategies that elevate our clients' online presence while providing steady leadership during a time of transition. This  leadership role requires a seasoned SEO and content marketing professional with strong strategic thinking, team management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

You will provide strategic direction, mentor a team of Augers, and work closely with other departments to ensure client success by optimizing team structure for profitability, aligning with organizational goals, and maintaining high client satisfaction. You’ll contribute insights to service leaders, influence scope and pricing for client engagements, and guide team process and documentation improvements that support performance and cultural alignment.

Responsibilities:

Strategy Development:

  • Oversee development and implementation of comprehensive organic strategies aligned with client objectives and industry best practices.
  • Stay informed about the latest trends and updates in SEO, and content marketing toguide strategy development.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of organic marketing professionals, fostering a collaborative and results-driven team culture.
  • Provide oversight/guidance on SEO, and content creation to ensure optimal results for clients.

People Development:

  • Mentorship and coaching direct reports.
  • Conduct employee reviews.
  • Employee training/knowledge sharing
  • Contractor sourcing and management

Recruiting, Interviewing, and Hiring:

  • Develop interview materials tailored to each role, lead screening and final interviews, and oversee candidate assessments. 
  • Guide the hiring team in evaluating candidates' fit with the organization's objectives and culture during internal selection meetings. 
  • Drive the recruitment process by ensuring thorough candidate evaluations and making informed hiring decisions.

Client Relationship Management:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for key clients, understanding their business goals and delivering strategic organic marketing recommendations.
  • Cultivate strong client relationships through effective communication and exceptional service.

SEO Team Management:

  • Ensure development and execution of SEO strategies, including keyword research, on-page optimization, etc. through managers across teams.
  • Last resort for ensuring billable hours and client deliverables is met according to our client agreements.
  • Act as the buffer to the service team when capacity gets tight.
  • Marketing and Sales support (scoping, pricing input, Pitching, On-boarding, Managing Expectations, Surfacing Case Studies, SME for practice area)
  • Ensure efficient use of resources and adherence to budgetary constraints regarding headcount, tools, training, etc.

Content Strategy:

  • Drive content strategy development, ensuring alignment with SEO goals and overall client objectives.
  • Oversee the creation of high-quality, engaging content that resonates with target audiences and supports organic growth.

Analysis/Reporting:

  • Utilize analytics tools to analyze the performance of organic campaigns and provide detailed reports to clients and provide direction for the team.
  • Manage oversight and training on Pre-meeting insights. QA and training. 

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with other departments, including paid media, analytics & sales when value can be delivered that is worth the impact.
  • Contribute to cross-channel initiatives, providing organic expertise.

P & L management:

  • Actively manages team P & L, coordinates with services leaders around final decisions around headcount and tools.
  • Maximizes revenue from the team while balancing team health, client satisfaction, and the business as a whole.

Variable Compensation:

  • Oversees progress of the entire team  and helps coach them to unlock variable comp at team and company levels. If factors arise that are beyond their control, coach them about why those choices were made.
  • Actively directs latent capacity when present on the team to enhance team operations and productivity towards variable compensation & business goals.

Required Experience & Skills
  • 8 years of progressive experience in SEO and content marketing, with a strong portfolio of strategic wins across various industries or verticals.

  • Proven ability to lead and grow high-performing teams, with a leadership style rooted in mentorship, collaboration, and accountability.

  • Deep knowledge of technical SEO, on-page optimization, keyword research, and content strategy—and the confidence to lead complex organic initiatives end-to-end.

  • Experience working directly with clients, providing strategic direction, translating business objectives into organic performance, and managing expectations with clarity and empathy.

  • Comfort and skill in cross-functional collaboration—particularly with Paid Media, Analytics, and Sales—to support integrated client strategies.

  • A thoughtful approach to P&L ownership, headcount planning, tool investment, and team resourcing that balances performance with culture and sustainability.

  • Strong command of analytics and reporting platforms (e.g., GA4, Google Search Console, Looker Studio, SEMrush) and the ability to turn insights into action.

Salary : $76,500 - $127,500
