About Us:
August First, an artisan bakery with strong community connections in Burlington, Vermont, is seeking a pastry baker to join our team. August First bakery is where the production of pastries and bread for the fast-casual August First cafe takes place. We are responsible for the production of fresh and delicious bread that is used on sandwiches in the cafe and sold wholesale in several local grocery stores. We also create the pastries offered at the counter in August First cafe, including croissants, cookies, scones, fresh fruit turnovers, and biscuits. At August First we are dedicated to creating delicious and locally sourced food and drink and inspiring merriment in a warm and welcoming environment.
Responsibilities:
- Pastry Production: Work diligently in the bakery to produce high quality pastry products in an efficient and timely manner.
- Product Knowledge: Knowledge of how baking ingredients work together and how they can be used in creative ways.
- Time Management: Ability to deliver orders on schedule, produce orders and products efficiently, and avoid wasting food.
- Creativity: Work with Bakery Manager to design new and unique menu items to attract customers
- Support Bread and Delivery Staff: Step in to assist the bread bakers and delivery drivers when needed, promoting a cohesive and supportive work environment
Experience:
- Previous experience in a bakery or working with baked goods at a high production level is a plus, but williing to train the right candidate
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Commitment to providing a consistent and high-quality product
Expectations:
- Knowledge and comfort with pastry and bread making techniques
- Strong understanding of bakery functions and offerings
- May be required to work in excessive heat and cold in association with the bakery environment
- Physical strength and stamina to spend long hours standing and performing repetitive motions. Ability to lift 50lbs.
- Ability to handle difficult interpersonal situations professionally, whether with guests or team members.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 16 – 32 per week
